What started as an unreleased collaboration between Davido and Wande Coal has now turned into a public disagreement over what actually happened behind the scenes.
The issue came up after Davido spoke about the collaboration during a recent podcast interview. He later shared the clip on his Instagram Story, explaining why his contribution to Wande Coal’s “Come My Way” was never released.
According to Davido, Wande Coal approached him to feature on the song, and he recorded a verse for it.
However, the problem allegedly started when it was time to decide how the song would be released.
Davido said he understood the collaboration to be a joint release, but Wande Coal planned to release the original song first and then use Davido’s contribution for a remix.
That did not sit well with Davido.
He explained that he did not record his verse with the intention of appearing on a remix. Because the two artistes could not agree on the release arrangement, the collaboration was eventually shelved.
But Wande Coal has now disputed that version of events.
Wande Coal gives his side
After Davido’s comments circulated online, Wande Coal responded on X, arguing that “Come My Way” already had a release plan and date before Davido became involved.
He wrote:
“Carry song come give you as how? Song wey been get release plan and date!!! Song wey no be your own you wan dictate release plan.”
In other words, Wande Coal appeared to reject the idea that Davido was brought into the song without an existing plan for its release.
He also pushed back against any suggestion that the song needed Davido’s contribution to succeed.
“That song fkin did well without you on it bruv!!!” he added.
That response shifted the conversation from a disagreement over an unreleased collaboration into a direct public exchange between the two artistes.
So, what is the actual disagreement?
At the centre of the issue is not necessarily whether Davido recorded a verse for “Come My Way”. Both sides appear to agree that the collaboration happened.
The disagreement is about what Davido was agreeing to when he recorded the verse and who had control over the song’s release plan.
Davido’s version is that he recorded his verse as part of a collaboration and did not agree to have it treated as a remix after Wande Coal released the original.
Wande Coal’s version is that “Come My Way” was already his song, with a release plan and date, and that Davido could not come in afterward and dictate how the song should be released.
That difference in expectations appears to be what ultimately prevented the collaboration from coming out.
The situation gets more personal
The disagreement did not end with the two different explanations.
After Wande Coal responded to Davido’s comments, Davido also replied on X, leading to a further exchange between both artistes.
What was initially a story about a song that never came out has therefore become a public disagreement over ownership, expectations and who had the right to decide how the collaboration should be released.
For now, the two artistes have given different accounts of the same situation, leaving fans to decide which version they believe.
What is clear is that the Davido and Wande Coal collaboration that could have been released years ago remains unreleased, and the disagreement surrounding it has now become public.
