She walked into the eatery, holding her son’s hand tightly. He was beaming with excitement, eagerly looking at the food options displayed behind the counter. It was clear this wasn’t their first time here—it seemed like a routine, a mother-and-son bonding moment. The woman ordered a plate full of food for her son, a bottle of juice, and a side of fries. Sitting a few steps away was a young girl, possibly in her early teens. She was dressed in an old, worn-out dress and cheap plastic slippers. She wasn’t part of the meal. Instead, she sat there quietly, looking down, fidgeting with her fingers, avoiding eye contact with the delicious plates being served around her. Her frail frame and hunched posture spoke volumes—this wasn’t just a one-time occurrence.
She was the maid.
