Amina Mahama, a 26-year-old Ghanaian TikToker and supporter of the opposition NPP, who allegedly directed insults and threats at President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, was apprehended by the IGPās cyber vetting team. Just a day after her arrest, she was arraigned in court.
According to reports, her lawyer addressed the matter of her bail conditions. While Aminaās bail proposal was accepted by the court, she may remain in police custody if the conditions are not promptly met. The lawyer allegedly described the bail terms as particularly stringent.
The court reportedly set her bail at 1 million Ghana cedis, requiring 2ā3 sureties. While another court requirement stipulated that Amina must provide a valid passport, which her legal team argued she is not currently entitled to. The court, however, insisted that a formal statement be submitted for verification, a process that could delay her release if not completed before the weekend, potentially pushing proceedings to Monday.
Additionally, the court required that one of the sureties be a civil servant earning a monthly salary of at least 5,000 cedis, among other conditions. While the court has accepted her bail proposal, delays in meeting these requirements could result in Amina remaining in police custody.
