EXCLUSIVE REPORT: Council of State in Turmoil Over Alhaji Sinare’s Snub — Sources Decry ‘Betrayal of Loyalty’ as Mahama uses Actress Kalsoume Sinare to Replace Him.
There is growing outrage and dismay within Ghana’s Council of State following what insiders are describing as a painful betrayal of loyalty, hard work, and political sacrifice — the unexpected replacement of Alhaji Said Sinare, a long-serving stalwart of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), from a key ambassadorial appointment.
Sources close to the Council have confirmed that of the 22 names submitted to the Council of State for approval on Thursday, April 17, 2025, Alhaji Said Sinare had been initially penciled in for one of the most strategic ambassadorial roles. However, to the shock of many within the corridors of power, his name was pulled at the last minute and replaced by none other than his cousin, actress Kalsoume Sinare.
The move, described by one senior source as "a slap in the face of loyalty," has shaken confidence within the Council and stirred deep frustration, particularly among those who have long admired Alhaji Sinare’s dedication to the NDC’s cause and his unmatched efforts in mobilizing the Zongo vote across the nation.
“It is disheartening. He toured more than 4,000 Zongo communities without fanfare, pouring his own resources into the grassroots struggle for this party’s survival,” a source close to the Council stated. “To watch his name erased and traded for a relative — with no such political record — is beyond insulting and this will bring a great division into their family if care is not taken.”
The 22-name list, which also included Baba Jamal, Victor Smith, Kojo Bonsu, Hon. Larbi, Hon. Moses Asaga, and others, reportedly received intense scrutiny. Insiders say the Council pushed back and fought for Alhaji Said Sinare’s inclusion, recognizing the sheer political capital he had invested in the NDC ahead of the 2016,2020 and 2024 elections. But despite their efforts, he could not survive the storm of internal party politics and favoritism.
Reports suggest that the decision was influenced by forces outside the Council’s control, and several members have expressed worry that this act of political nepotism could demoralize core party operatives, especially those in the Zongo communities who view Alhaji Sinare as one of their strongest voices.
“There are those who work for the cameras and those who work for the people — Sinare is the latter,” another source added. “If the party continues to reward sacrifice with silence and replace loyalty with lineage, it risks tearing its base apart.”
Alhaji Sinare’s contributions to the NDC are not just historical — they are current, deliberate, and essential. From the north to the coastal belt, his presence in the field has brought credibility to the party’s outreach to the Muslim and Zongo communities. His removal is not just a personal betrayal; it is a miscalculation that may cost the party dearly, Alhaji Fuseini added.
As internal murmurs grow louder, there is mounting pressure on the NDC leadership, particularly on President John Dramani Mahama, to re-evaluate this decision before irreversible damage is done. The rank and file of the party, especially those in the Zongo constituencies, are watching closely — and many are not happy.
Ignoring the sweat and sacrifice of those who built the foundation for victory could prove politically fatal, a senior member of the party laments bitterly.
All efforts to reach out to the former Ghana Ambassador to Egypt and Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare to speak on the development were unsuccessful.
