Ghana and Nigeria voiced concern Friday over growing violence and anti-African sentiment in South Africa, calling for urgent regional and continental action to address the root causes of the unrest. Foreign ministers from both countries met on the sidelines of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Mid-Year Summit in Freetown, where they agreed to coordinate efforts to safeguard the lives and dignity of African migrants and promote peaceful coexistence. The ministers emphasized that while crimes committed by individuals must be handled under the rule of law, migrants should not be subjected to mob attacks or collective punishment that often target law-abiding citizens.
