*Gov’t Backs 24-Hour Economy with Commissioning of EURACARE Multi Specialist Hospital at East Legon*

*ACCRA, Ghana* — The Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, yesterday commissioned EURACARE’s new Multi Specialist Hospital at Adjirigano, East Legon, Accra, describing the facility as a boost to government’s agenda of strengthening healthcare infrastructure and supporting the 24-hour economy.

The state-of-the-art facility was dedicated by Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams of Action Chapel International, in a ceremony attended by government officials, healthcare stakeholders, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Speaking at the commissioning, Hon. Debrah commended EURACARE for its investment in specialized healthcare delivery, noting that facilities of this caliber are critical to reducing outbound medical tourism and expanding access to quality care for Ghanaians.

“This hospital represents the kind of private sector partnership we need to build a resilient, inclusive health system. It aligns with the vision of a 24-hour economy where essential services like healthcare operate at the standards our people deserve, day and night,” the Chief of Staff said.

Archbishop Duncan Williams, in his dedication, prayed for the facility’s success and for the medical team, urging them to combine excellence with compassion in serving patients.

EURACARE officials said the hospital will operate round-the-clock emergency and specialist services, directly supporting government’s 24-hour economy policy by ensuring continuous access to healthcare.

*First Batch of Ghanaian Health Professionals to Deploy to Jamaica in June Under New Bilateral Agreement*

*ACCRA, Ghana* — Ghana and Jamaica are set to finalize a bilateral labour agreement that will see the first batch of Ghanaian health professionals deployed to Jamaica in June 2026, Health Minister Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh announced.

The agreement, aimed at facilitating ethical recruitment and deployment of Ghanaian health workers, has completed all technical, legal, and diplomatic processes and now awaits formal signing.

Speaking during a meeting with a Jamaican health delegation in Accra, Hon. Akandoh said the partnership will create employment opportunities, promote skills exchange, and strengthen healthcare systems in both countries. He emphasized that the arrangement will adhere to internationally accepted ethical recruitment principles, with priority given to the welfare and professional development of health workers.

“This is about creating win-win solutions for our health systems,” Akandoh said. He has directed Ministry of Health officials to begin implementation immediately after the Memorandum of Understanding is signed.

Jamaica’s Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Christopher Tufton, described the agreement as a major step toward addressing global healthcare inequalities and workforce shortages through South-South cooperation. “This partnership demonstrates how both countries can collaborate to enhance healthcare access, share expertise, and strengthen health systems for the benefit of our people,” Tufton said.

Beyond workforce mobility, both nations are exploring broader collaboration in specialist medical training, public health, pharmaceutical cooperation, digital health systems, plant medicine research, and health emergency preparedness.

As part of the visit, the Jamaican delegation will tour selected health facilities and regulatory institutions in the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Central Regions to deepen institutional partnerships and gain further insight into Ghana’s healthcare delivery systems.

The deployment marks one of Ghana’s most significant health workforce export agreements and reflects growing cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean on healthcare delivery.

Got you. Here are a few short, illustrative “small experiences” that capture Hon. Julius Debrah’s public style and reputation.

*1. The Door-Open Policy*
Staff at the Office of the Chief of Staff often talk about his “open door” habit. During budget season when most offices go quiet, his is the one where directors and junior officers alike can walk in with a memo. One GEA officer recalled bringing a Kaizen progress report at 7:30pm expecting to drop it with a secretary. He was waved in, offered water, and spent 15 minutes going through bottlenecks. “He reads everything,” she said. “And he remembers.”

*2. No Entourage, No Fuss*
At DPS International Ghana’s _The Royal Hex_ play, protocol expected a full advance team. He arrived with one aide, took a seat in the 4th row with parents, and stayed through the curtain call. When students rushed for photos, he asked each their name and class. A teacher later said, “He made them feel seen, not just performed for.”

*3. The 5AM Calls*
A Metro Mass Transit manager shared that during the rollout of the 100 new buses, missed deadlines got a 5:12am call. Not angry, just direct: “Kofi, what’s blocking us and what do you need to clear it today?” The buses were commissioned that same week. Colleagues call it his “fix-it, don’t fault-it” approach.

*4. The Notebook*
He’s rarely seen without a small black notebook. At the JICA meeting on Kaizen, while others had iPads, he filled 3 pages by hand. An advisor said he reviews them every Sunday night and follows up on Monday with “You said X, where are we?” It’s why agencies say commitments made in his meetings actually move.

*5. Suhum Market Detours*
Though now based at the Presidency, he still detours through Suhum market when he’s in the Eastern Region. Market queens say he’ll stop, buy koobi or plantain, and ask about prices, roads, and school fees. “He listens like he’s still our MP,” one said. “Then next month, you see a grader on the road.”

*Government, JICA Hold Talks to Scale Kaizen Philosophy into National Movement*

*ACCRA* — Chief of staff Hon. Julius Debra held discussion with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on deepening the Kaizen philosophy and expanding its impact on Ghana’s development agenda.

The JICA team, led by Chief Representative Mr. Takayuki Uchiyama, met with Chief of staff Hon Julius Debra and other government officials to explore the strategic shift of Kaizen from a project-based intervention to a sustained national movement. The goal is to drive productivity, operational efficiency, continuous improvement, innovation, and competitiveness across public and private sector institutions.

*Progress with MSMEs*
The engagement reviewed progress made by Ghana, through the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and other key public institutions, in embedding Kaizen principles within MSMEs and organisations. These efforts have shown the value of structured productivity improvement in boosting enterprise performance and supporting sustainable growth.

Officials noted that initiatives like Kaizen remain critical as government prioritises industrialisation, job creation, and private sector expansion under President John Dramani Mahama. The focus is on building resilient enterprises, improving institutional efficiency, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Ghanaian businesses.

*Delegation*
The JICA delegation included Ms. Miwa Ito, Senior Representative; Mr. Masashi Yamanaka, JICA Expert; Mr. Sylvester of the JICA Governance Team; Ms. Naho Aizu, Private Sector Representative; and Ms. Nana Adwoa Konadu Asiam, Programme Specialist for Private Sector. They were joined by GEA Chief Executive Officer Margaret Ansei.

JICA, UNIDO, the Kaizen Excellence Center of Ethiopia, and GEA were commended for their partnership in advancing productivity improvement, enterprise development, and sustainable economic transformation in Ghana and across Africa.

*Ghana Gold Board Signs Refinery Deal with Royal Ghana Gold Limited to Boost Local Value Addition*

*ACCRA* — The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has signed a refinery agreement with Royal Ghana Gold Refinery, marking a major step in the country’s mineral value addition agenda.

Under the deal, GoldBod will supply up to one metric tonne of gold weekly for local refining. The agreement aligns with government’s push to ensure Ghana captures more value from its mineral resources before export.

This is GoldBod’s second refinery partnership in 2026, following an earlier agreement with Gold Coast Refinery.

*Local Refining by 2030*
Speaking at the signing ceremony, GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, Esq. reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to have all mineral resources mined in Ghana refined locally by 2030.

The partnership is expected to help Ghana retain refining fees, recover valuable by-products, create jobs, and strengthen the country’s position as a leading gold refining hub in Africa.

Both the Bank of Ghana and Royal Ghana Gold Refinery pledged support for the initiative, citing its role in advancing Ghana’s industrialisation and economic transformation agenda.
