In line with Asante tradition, the Nananom Akomfoɔ (traditional priests) are required to perform sacred rituals to pave the way for the funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. These rites are considered essential in ensuring spiritual cleansing, guidance, and the smooth transition of the Queen Mother into the ancestral world.

Yen sua adeɛ!

Mfa wo nkwa ngoro Atɔprɛ ( Asante Proverb )

The Almighty Atɔprɛ Drum, which was played for condemned persons to Dance before they were finally executed.

As the condemned were brought forth, the Atɔprɛ drum was struck, its rhythm announcing that blood was about to be spilled. The Atɔprɛfoɔ would encircle the criminal, taunting him with both words and cuts:

• They sliced the back and asked, “Have you ever seen your back skin before?”
• They cut the ear and asked, “Have you ever seen your own ear before?”

All this while, the Atoprɛfoɔ danced to the rhythm of the drum, mocking and disarming the condemned with both cruelty and spectacle, as the condemned also took part in Dancing to his Death.
