29/05/2026

Adwoa stared at Damien’s message for what felt like forever, her heart beating so hard she could hear it in the silence of her room.

“Curiosity can sometimes lead people into trouble, Adwoa.”

Her hands suddenly felt cold.

At first, she tried convincing herself it was coincidence. Maybe he was talking about something completely unrelated. Maybe she was overthinking again. But deep down, fear had already settled inside her chest.

Because the timing felt too perfect.

Too intentional.

Slowly, she locked her phone and sat upright on the bed, replaying the afternoon in her mind again and again. Had he noticed the drawer moved? Did he somehow know she touched the photographs? Had he been watching her?

Sleep never came that night.

Every small sound outside her room startled her awake. By morning, exhaustion sat heavily on her face, but she forced herself to act normal.

She had to.

Kofi’s words kept repeating in her head.

Do not let him know you suspect anything.

Later that afternoon, Damien arrived unexpectedly with flowers and breakfast from one of the expensive restaurants in Green Valley. The same charming smile rested on his face as though nothing unusual had happened.

“You look tired,” he said softly while studying her face.

“I didn’t sleep well,” Adwoa replied carefully.

Damien frowned slightly. “Wedding stress?”

She forced a laugh. “Maybe.”

For a moment, he said nothing.

Then slowly, he reached forward and brushed invisible dust from her shoulder.

“You know,” he said quietly, “I hope you understand something.”

Adwoa suddenly felt nervous.

“What?”

“I don’t like dishonesty,” Damien replied calmly. “Trust matters to me. Once people start hiding things or sneaking around…” He paused briefly before smiling again. “It usually ends badly.”

The words made her stomach tighten instantly.

Was he warning her?

Or threatening her?

Before she could figure it out, Damien stood up casually.

“Anyway,” he said lightly, “I have a surprise for you later tonight.”

Adwoa forced another smile, but inside, anxiety grew stronger.

After he left, she immediately called Kofi.

“This is getting worse,” she whispered the moment he answered. “I think he knows.”

“What happened?” Kofi asked quickly.

Slowly, Adwoa explained everything—the late-night message, Damien’s strange comments, and the uncomfortable feeling she could no longer ignore.

Kofi became quiet for a moment.

“Listen to me carefully,” he finally said. “You need proof.”

“Proof of what?”

“Of whatever he’s hiding,” Kofi replied. “If something happened to Nana Ama, suspicion alone won’t protect you.”

Adwoa immediately became nervous.

“You want me to investigate more?”

“No,” Kofi said quickly. “Not alone.”

But even as he said the words, Adwoa already knew she could not stop herself.

Because now—

Fear had become curiosity.

And curiosity wanted answers.

That evening, Damien took her to dinner at a luxury restaurant. Everything looked perfect from the outside. Soft music played, expensive food covered the table, and Damien behaved like the same loving man everyone admired. He laughed, held her hand, and talked excitedly about their future together.

Yet somehow—

Adwoa could no longer see him the same way.

Every smile now felt rehearsed.

Every kind gesture felt calculated.

At one point during dinner, Damien suddenly excused himself to answer a phone call.

Something about his expression changed the moment he saw the caller ID.

He looked irritated.

Almost angry.

“I’ll be back,” he said quietly before stepping away.

Minutes passed.

Then curiosity got the better of her.

Without thinking too much, Adwoa quietly stood and moved closer toward the hallway leading outside.

That was when she heard it.

Damien’s voice.

Low.

Sharp.

Dangerously calm.

“I told you never to contact me again,” he said quietly into the phone. “You should’ve learned from what happened to the last person who kept digging.”

Adwoa froze instantly.

Her breath caught.

For several terrifying seconds, she could not move.

Because suddenly—

Nana Ama no longer felt like a mystery.

She felt like a warning.

29/05/2026

Adwoa’s hands trembled so badly she almost dropped the photograph back into the drawer. Her heart pounded painfully against her chest as Damien’s handwriting burned into her mind.

“Disobedient. Too curious.”

For several terrifying seconds, her thoughts refused to settle. At first, she tried convincing herself there had to be another explanation. Maybe it was a misunderstanding. Maybe she was overthinking again. But the more she stared at the photograph, the harder it became to ignore the fear slowly spreading through her body.

Why would Damien keep photographs of women hidden in a drawer?

Why were there so many of them?

And why did he write something so strange beneath Nana Ama’s picture?

The sound of footsteps grew closer.

Immediately, panic rushed through her.

Her hands moved quickly as she shoved the photograph back exactly where she found it, trying desperately to arrange everything before Damien entered. Just as she stepped away from the drawer, Damien walked back inside.

For a second, everything felt normal.

Too normal.

He smiled.

“You okay?” he asked casually.

Adwoa forced herself to breathe normally.

“Yes,” she replied quickly.

But something about the way Damien looked at her suddenly felt different. His eyes stayed on her a second too long, almost as though he was studying her expression.

“You look nervous,” he said quietly.

“I’m fine,” she replied quickly again.

Damien smiled faintly, though something about it no longer felt comforting.

“If wedding stress is becoming too much, you can always talk to me,” he said gently.

Adwoa nodded, but deep down, uneasiness refused to leave her.

The rest of the afternoon felt strange. Damien acted normal, discussing guest lists, decorations, and plans for their future together, but Adwoa found herself paying attention to things she had ignored before. The way his smile disappeared whenever she looked distracted. The way he casually checked who called her phone. Even the way he asked small questions suddenly felt different.

“Who called you earlier?” he asked at one point.

“Oh… just a friend,” Adwoa answered carefully.

“What friend?”

The question came too quickly.

She hesitated slightly. “Just someone from work.”

Damien nodded slowly but said nothing else.

Still, something about the silence that followed made her uncomfortable.

Later that evening, after Damien dropped her home, Adwoa locked herself inside her room and sat quietly on the bed, trying to process everything. Her thoughts refused to stop racing.

The photographs.

The women.

The handwriting.

Nana Ama.

Nothing felt accidental anymore.

Unable to ignore the fear growing inside her, she finally picked up her phone and called Kofi.

He answered almost immediately.

“Adwoa?”

Her voice came out quieter than expected.

“I think you were right.”

Silence followed.

“What happened?” Kofi asked carefully.

Slowly, she told him everything.

The office.

The hidden drawer.

The photographs.

Damien’s handwriting.

When she finally finished, Kofi sounded more worried than relieved.

“You need to be careful,” he said immediately. “Do not confront him.”

“I’m scared,” Adwoa admitted quietly.

Kofi’s voice softened.

“You’re not alone,” he said. “But right now, you need to act normal. Don’t let him know you suspect anything.”

Before ending the call, Kofi said something that stayed with her long after.

“If Damien is hiding something dangerous,” he said carefully, “the worst thing you can do is let him know you’ve started asking questions.”

That night, Adwoa barely slept.

Around 2 a.m., her phone suddenly vibrated.

A message from Damien.

At first, she almost smiled from habit.

Then she opened it.

Her body immediately turned cold.

“Curiosity can sometimes lead people into trouble, Adwoa.”

For several seconds, she could not breathe.

Because somehow—

Deep inside—

She suddenly knew.

Damien knew she had touched that drawer.

28/05/2026

Adwoa barely heard anything Kofi said after reading Damien’s message. Her thoughts had become loud, messy, impossible to settle. For days, she had ignored the small discomfort sitting quietly inside her chest, convincing herself she was simply nervous about marriage. But now, after hearing Nana Ama’s story, everything suddenly felt different. The strange behavior she once dismissed as love no longer looked harmless. The constant calls. The possessiveness. The way Damien somehow always knew where she was. The speed of everything. For the first time since meeting him, fear settled properly inside her.

“You need to be careful,” Kofi said quietly. “I’m not asking you to believe me immediately. But at least slow down. Ask questions. Don’t marry someone you don’t fully know.”

Adwoa looked down at the photograph in her hands again. The woman standing beside Damien looked happy. Comfortable. Safe. Yet somehow, according to everyone, she had simply disappeared.

“This doesn’t make sense,” Adwoa whispered. “If something bad happened, why has nobody proven anything?”

Kofi sighed heavily. “Because people like Damien know how to hide things,” he said carefully. “And maybe nobody looked deeply enough.”

The words unsettled her.

For several moments, silence stretched between them before Kofi finally spoke again.

“I know you probably think I’m doing this because I’m hurt,” he said quietly. “Maybe part of me still is. But if I wanted revenge, I would have stayed silent and watched everything happen. I’m here because despite everything… I still care about you.”

Adwoa immediately looked away, guilt tightening painfully in her chest. Kofi had every reason to hate her, yet somehow he was still trying to protect her.

Before she could say anything, her phone vibrated again.

Another message from Damien.

“Why aren’t you answering? Are you with someone?”

Her stomach tightened.

The message felt different this time.

Not caring.

Controlling.

Suddenly nervous, Adwoa quickly told Kofi she needed to go home.

When she arrived, she found Damien already sitting outside with her mother, laughing softly as though nothing unusual had happened. The sight unsettled her immediately.

“There you are,” Damien said, standing up with a smile. “You had me worried.”

Her mother smiled warmly. “He’s been waiting almost an hour.”

Adwoa froze slightly.

An hour?

She had not told him where she was.

“You didn’t answer your calls,” Damien continued casually. “I even called your workplace.”

Something about the way he said it suddenly made her uncomfortable.

That night, after Damien left, sleep refused to come. Kofi’s words replayed endlessly in her mind while the photograph of Nana Ama refused to leave her thoughts. Around midnight, unable to stop herself, Adwoa made a decision.

She needed answers.

The next afternoon, Damien invited her to his mansion to discuss wedding plans. Normally, she would have felt excited, but today anxiety followed her everywhere. While Damien briefly stepped outside to answer a phone call, Adwoa found herself sitting alone in his office area.

At first, she told herself to stay put.

Then her eyes drifted toward a locked drawer near his desk.

Her heart suddenly began beating faster.

She remembered what Kofi said.

Nana Ama started digging into Damien’s life.

A strange feeling pushed her forward.

Slowly, she stood.

She had no plan.

No reason.

Just curiosity mixed with fear.

To her surprise, the drawer was slightly open.

Inside, she expected documents.

Maybe business papers.

Instead—

Her body froze.

There were photographs.

Women.

Different women.

Some smiling beside Damien.

Some wearing rings.

Her hands trembled as she slowly picked one up.

Then she saw it.

Nana Ama.

The same woman from the photograph Kofi showed her.

But underneath the picture, written neatly in Damien’s handwriting, were words that made Adwoa feel cold instantly.

“Disobedient. Too curious.”

For several seconds, she could not breathe.

Then she heard footsteps approaching.

Damien was coming back.

And suddenly,

Adwoa realized she may have just discovered something she was never supposed to see.

27/05/2026

Adwoa had spent the last few days trying to ignore the strange feeling sitting heavily inside her chest. Ever since Damien proposed, everyone around her seemed to have something negative to say. Her mother looked worried, Kofi had become distant, and even small things about Damien had started bothering her in ways she could not explain. Still, she kept reminding herself that fear often followed big changes. Perhaps she was simply nervous about marriage.

That afternoon, after closing from work, she stepped outside the bookstore and immediately froze.

Kofi stood near the roadside waiting for her.

He looked tired.

More tired than she had ever seen him before.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

“What are you doing here?” Adwoa finally asked quietly.

Kofi hesitated before speaking. “Please… I just need a few minutes.”

Something in his voice unsettled her immediately.

Reluctantly, she agreed, and they walked to a quieter area nearby where fewer people passed. For several seconds, Kofi said nothing, almost as though he was struggling to find the right words.

“You shouldn’t marry Damien,” he finally said.

Adwoa sighed heavily.

“Kofi, we’ve already had this conversation.”

“No,” he interrupted gently. “This time is different. Please just listen.”

She folded her arms.

“What now?”

Kofi reached into a small envelope he had been holding.

“I started asking questions about Damien,” he admitted quietly. “At first, I thought maybe I was just hurt and overthinking things. But the more I found out… the worse everything became.”

Adwoa immediately looked uncomfortable.

“You investigated him?”

“Yes,” Kofi said without apology. “Because something about him never felt right.”

He slowly handed her an old photograph.

At first, Adwoa barely looked at it.

But the moment her eyes settled on the image, something inside her shifted.

It was Damien.

Standing beside another woman.

Smiling.

The woman wore an engagement ring.

A ring that looked almost identical to hers.

Her stomach tightened.

“Who is she?” she asked quietly.

“Her name was Nana Ama,” Kofi replied. “According to someone close to her, Damien wanted to marry her too.”

Adwoa immediately shook her head.

“No. Maybe they just dated.”

Kofi looked at her sadly.

“That’s what I hoped too,” he said softly. “But I met her best friend.”

Slowly, he told her everything.

How Damien had entered Nana Ama’s life the same way he entered hers. The gifts. The sudden promises. The expensive lifestyle. The fast proposal. At first, everything looked perfect. Too perfect. But after some time, Nana Ama began noticing strange things about Damien. He became possessive. Asked too many questions. Always wanted to know where she was. Who she spoke to. What she was doing.

Adwoa felt cold listening.

Because it sounded painfully familiar.

Kofi continued.

“Nana Ama became suspicious,” he said quietly. “She started digging into Damien’s past. Asking questions. Looking into his businesses. Trying to figure out who he really was.”

Adwoa swallowed hard.

“And then?” she asked softly.

Kofi hesitated.

Then finally said the words that made her body tense.

“She disappeared.”

Adwoa immediately frowned.

“What do you mean disappeared?”

“I mean nobody knows where she is,” he replied carefully. “Her family searched. Police got involved. People looked for her. But she was never found.”

The air between them suddenly felt heavy.

“No…” Adwoa whispered.

Kofi nodded slowly.

“Her friend believes something happened after Nana Ama started questioning Damien,” he said quietly. “Nobody could prove anything, but the timing never made sense.”

Adwoa immediately looked away.

Her mind refused to settle.

This sounded impossible.

Crazy even.

Yet suddenly, moments she had ignored no longer felt harmless.

The constant questions.

The possessiveness hidden behind affection.

The strange way Damien always seemed to know where she was.

The speed of everything.

Her phone suddenly vibrated.

Damien.

“Where are you? I called the bookstore and they said you already left.”

Adwoa’s heart skipped painfully.

She had not told him she finished work.

Slowly, she looked back at Kofi.

For the first time since meeting Damien…

Fear entered properly.

Because suddenly, one terrifying thought refused to leave her mind.

What if Nana Ama had not simply disappeared?

What if she had discovered something she was never supposed to know?

26/05/2026

Kofi could not stop thinking about what the old shop owner had told him. For days, the name Abena stayed in his mind like a warning he could not ignore. At first, he tried convincing himself to let everything go. After all, Adwoa had already made her choice. She was engaged, preparing for marriage, and perhaps none of this was his place anymore. But every time he remembered the strange things about Damien—the expensive gifts, the speed at which everything happened, the possessiveness hidden behind kindness—something inside him refused to rest.

Eventually, curiosity and fear pushed him to search for Abena.

Finding her was not easy. After asking around for days, Kofi finally got directions to a small fabric shop on the other side of town where she worked. He almost turned back twice, unsure whether he was wasting his time, but something kept telling him to continue.

When he finally met her, Abena looked confused at first.

“You’re asking about who?” she asked cautiously.

“Damien Mensah,” Kofi replied quietly.

The moment the name left his mouth, her expression changed.

Immediately.

It was small, but noticeable.

Fear.

Kofi saw it clearly.

“How do you know him?” she asked carefully.

“I don’t,” Kofi admitted. “But someone I care about is about to marry him.”

Abena became silent.

She looked around nervously before lowering her voice.

“Then your person is in danger.”

The words hit Kofi harder than expected.

“What do you mean?”

Abena hesitated for a long moment before finally speaking.

“About three years ago, my best friend, Nana Ama, met Damien,” she said quietly. “At first, everything looked perfect. Too perfect. Gifts. Trips. Expensive things. Promises of marriage. He moved fast with her too, just like you’re describing.”

Kofi felt his stomach tighten.

“What happened?”

Abena looked away for a moment, as though remembering something painful.

“At first, Nana Ama was happy,” she continued. “She kept saying Damien had changed her life. But after some months, things became strange. She started telling me he asked too many questions. He always wanted to know where she was, who she spoke to, and why she stayed out too long. Sometimes he got angry over little things but later apologized with expensive gifts.”

The story sounded painfully familiar.

“She wanted to leave?” Kofi asked.

“No,” Abena replied quietly. “At least not at first. But then Nana Ama started getting suspicious. She said things about Damien weren’t adding up. He lied about certain places he traveled to. He hid phone calls. Sometimes she caught him saying things that did not make sense. So she started asking questions.”

Kofi suddenly leaned forward.

“What kind of questions?”

“She started digging into his past,” Abena said softly. “Checking documents. Asking people questions. Looking into businesses he claimed to own. She told me something felt wrong, but before she could explain properly…” Abena paused.

“What happened?” Kofi asked quietly.

Abena’s eyes filled with discomfort.

“She disappeared.”

Kofi froze.

“What do you mean disappeared?”

“I mean nobody knows where she is,” Abena said firmly. “One week she was there, worried and asking questions. The next week, she was gone.”

“Didn’t her family report it?”

“They did,” Abena replied quickly. “Police got involved. People searched. But nothing came out of it. Some people said maybe she ran away. Others thought she wanted a fresh start somewhere else. But I knew Nana Ama. She would never leave without speaking to me.”

Kofi suddenly felt cold.

“And Damien?” he asked.

Abena laughed bitterly.

“He acted calm. Too calm. He told people they had already broken up and she probably moved on. But the timing never made sense.”

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then Abena reached into her handbag and pulled out an old photograph.

It showed Damien standing beside a smiling young woman.

The ring on her finger looked painfully familiar.

Almost identical to the one Damien had given Adwoa.

“I’ve stayed quiet for years because I was scared,” Abena said softly. “But if another girl is about to marry him… you need to stop it.”

For the first time since beginning his investigation, genuine fear settled fully into Kofi’s chest.

Because suddenly…

This no longer felt like suspicion.

It felt dangerous.

25/05/2026

The news of Adwoa’s engagement spread through Green Valley faster than anyone expected. Some people congratulated her excitedly, calling her lucky and praising the sudden change in her life, while others whispered quietly among themselves, questioning how a wealthy businessman had suddenly entered her life and proposed after only a short time. Yet among all the reactions, the ones that unsettled Adwoa most came from the people who genuinely loved her.

Her mother had grown unusually quiet ever since Damien formally visited their home. Although she smiled whenever neighbors congratulated them, worry constantly hid behind her eyes. One evening while helping prepare food outside, she finally spoke carefully.

“My daughter, are you sure about this man?”

Adwoa sighed. “Mama, why does everybody keep asking me that? Damien loves me.”

Her mother looked at her for a long moment. “Love is not only about gifts or comfort,” she said softly. “Sometimes people can give you everything and still not mean you well.”

The words irritated Adwoa because she had heard similar warnings too many times already.

“What if this is finally my blessing?” she asked quietly. “Why does everyone think something bad must happen?”

Her mother said nothing after that, but somehow the silence felt heavier than advice.

As wedding preparations continued, Adwoa started noticing little things about Damien that unsettled her. He called more often than before, asking detailed questions about where she was and who she spent time with. If she delayed replying to messages, his mood changed noticeably, though he always apologized afterward and blamed it on “caring too much.”
Once, when she mentioned seeing an old male classmate near the market, Damien’s face darkened in a way that made her uncomfortable.

“I don’t like people getting too familiar with what belongs to me,” he said quietly.

Though he later apologized and bought her gifts the next day, something about his words stayed in her mind longer than she wanted to admit.

Meanwhile, Kofi struggled silently with heartbreak. Though Adwoa had chosen Damien, something inside him refused to settle. The more he thought about Damien, the less everything made sense.

Why would a wealthy stranger suddenly enter Green Valley, move so fast, and become deeply invested in someone he barely knew? Determined to stop ignoring his instincts, Kofi quietly began asking questions.

At first, he found nothing except rumors. Damien had once lived in another city and left suddenly after business problems surrounded his name. Some people claimed partnerships collapsed mysteriously around him, while others described him as charming but secretive.

Nothing felt concrete enough until one afternoon when an older shop owner quietly told Kofi something strange.

“You’re not the first man to ask about Damien,” the woman said cautiously. “There was another young woman some years ago.”

Kofi immediately paid attention.

“What happened to her?”

The woman hesitated.

“People said Damien wanted to marry her too.”

Kofi’s chest tightened.

“But nobody talks about it anymore,” she added quietly. “Too much happened after.”

“What happened?” Kofi asked again.

The woman looked uncomfortable. “Find Abena,” she whispered. “She was the girl’s closest friend.”

For the first time since starting his search, genuine fear entered Kofi’s chest.
