Three complete strangers with nothing in common but bad luck find themselves sharing a cell in the country's most secure, and bizarrely managed, penitentiary. Ray (Eddie Murphy), a fast-talking con man whose latest scheme backfired spectacularly; Marcus (Martin Lawrence), a neurotic dentist framed for a crime he didn't commit; and Shorty (Kevin Hart), a perpetually confused delivery driver who accidentally drove his truck into a bank vault. Wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life under the watchful eye of a tyrannical and eccentric warden, the trio realizes their only chance for freedom is to break out.
Their escape plan, hatched by Ray and scribbled on a stolen napkin, is as convoluted as it is ridiculous. It involves a series of improbable gadgets, a troupe of performing prison poodles, and a tunnel dug with cafeteria spoons. As they navigate the prison's absurd security measures—including laser-beamed hallways and a moat filled with electric eels—their plan goes hilariously wrong at every turn. Marcus's panic attacks threaten to blow their cover, Shorty's attempts to blend in with the guards are painfully obvious, and Ray's "foolproof" map leads them straight into the warden's private bathroom. With a relentless team of bumbling guards hot on their trail and the entire prison population cheering them on, this unlikely trio must rely on their wits, their questionable teamwork, and sheer dumb luck to pull off the most chaotic and side-splitting prison break in history.
