BIRIM NORTH : MOTOR ACCIDENT CLAIMS 2 LIVES.
Two young men have tragically lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident at Akyem Akrofonso in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.

The two, who were riding separate motorcycles, collided head-on on the evening of Sunday, August 16, 2026, along the Amenamā€“Akrofonso road.

They reportedly died on the spot, and their bodies have since been deposited at the morgue for preservation as investigations continue.

NKAWKAW TRADO: TWO SIBLINGS DROWN WHILE PARENTS ATTEND FRIDAY MOSQUE PRAYERS.

Tragedy has hit Trado, a suburb of Nkawkaw, after two sisters, aged 2 and 4, drowned in a community well on Friday while their parents were away for the regular Friday Islamic prayers.

According to the community linguist, Nana Darko, four children had gone to the well under unclear circumstances. Three fell into the well, while the fourth ran home to raise the alarm. The two girls were rescued and rushed to the Holy Family Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The third child survived and is currently recovering.

The deceased have been buried in line with Islamic rites as Police continue investigations.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Trado, Nana Osei Gyimah II, has temporarily banned residents from fetching water from the well. He said the well will be drained, cleaned and subjected to the necessary traditional rites before it is reopened.

The chief also urged parents to keep a close watch on their children, especially during the school vacation.

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC DIVERSION ON THE ACCRA-KUMASI HIGHWAY

There is a pile-up road crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway (Accra-Kumasi highway), involving a high-occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck, and a sedan, resulting in a complete blockade of the road for Accra and Kumasi-bound traffic.

The Eastern South Regional Police MTTD team from Kibi are at the scene, and have temporarily diverted the traffic through Kibi at Nsutam for Accra bound traffic, and at Apedwa, for Kumasi-bound traffic, today 3/08/2026.

We entreat motorists and other road users to cooperate with the officers on the ground as they work to restore normal traffic flow.

NPP 2ND VICE CHAIRMAN TO LAUNCH INTEREST-FREE LOAN SCHEME FOR NKAWKAW MARKET WOMEN.

The Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nkawkaw Constituency, Dr. Benjamin Okyere Gyan, has announced plans to establish an interest-free loan scheme to support market women in expanding their businesses.

According to Dr. Okyere Gyan, the operational framework for the initiative has already been developed by his team. He said an initial amount has been earmarked for the fund but noted that efforts are underway to increase the capital before its official launch.

"We have put together the framework and set aside some money for the project, but we believe the amount is not sufficient. We are therefore mobilising additional resources before launching the fund," he said.

Dr. Okyere Gyan disclosed the initiative after donating six truckloads of stones to the Nkawkaw Tudu Market to help reclaim sections of the market affected by mud.

He said the poor condition of the market had made it less attractive to traders and customers, negatively affecting commercial activities. The donation, he explained, is intended to improve accessibility and create a more conducive environment for business.

The planned loan scheme, coupled with efforts to improve the market's infrastructure, is expected to enhance trading activities and provide financial relief to women who form the backbone of the local market economy.

AFRAM PLAINS: Ferry breaks down barely three days after returning from maintenance.

The ferry had been out of service for about a month after developing a fault. However, it broke down again less than a week after returning from maintenance.

According to residents, the alternative ferry, **Yapei Queen**, which was deployed to operate while the main ferry was undergoing repairs, has limited capacity and cannot carry as many vehicles. They say this has resulted in longer waiting times and delays for commuters.

Residents are therefore calling on the authorities to repair the main ferry as quickly as possible to restore smooth transportation across the river.
