Achiase DCE Seeks at Least 20 Military Slots Every Year as Compensation for Land Given to Army

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Achiase, Hon. Samuel Brako, has made a formal appeal to the Chief of Army Staff, Major General LK Gbetanu, to allocate a minimum of 20 military recruitment slots annually to the youth of Achiase. The request was made during the Army Chief’s official visit to the Achiase Jungle Welfare School, also known as Seth Anthony Barracks.

Hon. Samuel Brako emphasized that the land on which the Jungle Welfare School sits was freely provided by the people of Achiase in 1976, with no compensation or formal agreement. He noted that the gesture was made in the national interest, and the community has remained supportive of the Ghana Armed Forces ever since. According to the DCE, the requested enlistment slots would help create job opportunities for the local youth while serving as a symbolic acknowledgment of the community’s long-standing sacrifice.

The visit brought together traditional leaders of Achiase, military officials, and local authorities, highlighting the strong ties between the army and the community. The DCE’s appeal was made with respect and optimism, focusing on the mutual benefits such a partnership could bring. He expressed confidence that the army leadership would recognize the value of the request and take steps to strengthen the relationship through tangible action.

Hon. Brako concluded by reiterating his commitment to promoting opportunities for the youth and fostering closer collaboration between the military and the people of Achiase. He called for continued dialogue and cooperation that reflect the community’s enduring contribution to national development.

AKYEM ADWOBUE CHIEF DONATES EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO SUPPORT LOCAL SCHOOLS

The Chief of Akyem Adwobue, Nana Owusu Agyenteng III, has donated a large quantity of educational materials: 3,000 copies of Note one exercise books, 500 copies of Teacher's note book, 1,000 copies of D2 excercise books, and 1,000 copies of A2 exercise books to schools in his community, as part of his commitment to improving academic performance in the area.

Speaking during the presentation, Nana Owusu Agyenteng III revealed that shortly after his enstoolment, he visited the former District Chief Executive’s office, where he discovered a report ranking Akyem Adwobue third among communities in the Akyemmansa District, for poor academic performance. He expressed concern about the declining standards, especially given that Adwobue is a mining community, which, like many others, tends to face challenges in education.

The chief identified one of the major challenges as poor parental supervision. He lamented that many children are often seen roaming the streets at night instead of studying at home, which negatively affects their academic progress.

Nana Owusu Agyenteng III also issued a strong warning to school authorities. He emphasized that the educational materials are to be used strictly for the benefit of the students and not for sale. He cautioned that any teacher or headteacher caught selling the donated items would face serious consequences.

The Education Director for Akyemansa District, Mrs. Afriyie Agyapong urged the school children to take their education serious and make a good use of the books donated by the Chief.

She also stressed about the failure of most parents refusal to purchase learning materials for their wards when a new academic year begins.

"If I Pay My Taxes as the DCE, Who Are You Not to Pay Yours?" – Hon. Rahim Taaju

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim South, Hon. Rahim Taaju, has urged all citizens to fulfill their tax obligations, emphasizing that taxation is a crucial pillar for national and local development. He stressed that if he, as a public officeholder, pays his taxes without exemption, then every citizen is equally expected to do the same.

Speaking during One on One interview on Sinopi show with Obidombie Nana Acquah Kumi on ODA OFIE 105.9FM , Hon. Taaju stated that a country’s progress is directly tied to the revenue it generates, particularly through taxes. He added that it is not only a legal responsibility but a civic duty for every individual to contribute to the national purse.

According to the him, development projects such as roads, schools, health centers, and other infrastructure are all made possible through taxes. He noted that everyone benefits from these projects, and as such, no one should feel exempt from contributing their fair share.

Hon. Rahim Taaju also cautioned against any attempt to politicize or personalize the tax collection process. He insisted that tax enforcement should be fair and non-selective, warning that favoritism or exemptions based on political affiliation undermines the district’s development agenda.

His remarks follow allegations against his predecessor, who is said to have instructed officials from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to collect taxes only from certain party members within the district. Hon. Taaju condemned such actions, calling for transparency and equity in all aspects of governance.
