WAJA CONDEMNS ATTACK ON JOURNALIST RICHARD OHENE KWAME

The Wasa Amenfi Journalists Association (WAJA) strongly condemns the unprovoked attack on our colleague, Richard Ohene Kwame aka King Pogasty, which occurred on 28th January 2026.

In a democratic society, journalists must be allowed to perform their duties freely without fear of assault, intimidation, or destruction of their working equipment. Attacks of this nature violate press freedom and undermine democratic principles.

WAJA therefore calls on the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly investigate this incident and ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.

What Happened
On 28th January 2026, during the NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s thank-you tour of the Wasa Amenfi East Municipality, our colleague King Pogasty, CEO of Animonyam TV, was allegedly attacked by an NDC communication team member, Andy Sokpe, at Wasa Akropong.

While carrying out his professional duties, Pogasty was struck, causing his mobile phone to fall. When he attempted to question the incident, Andy Sokpe reportedly became aggressive and smashed the journalist’s phone and other working equipment beyond repair.

WAJA has consistently advocated for media freedom and professional conduct.

We therefore urge the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to caution its members against arrogance and intolerance toward journalists, which is completely unacceptable.

We stand united in defense of press freedom. An attack on a journalist is an attack on democracy, and WAJA will continue to demand accountability and justice.

*Nana Meisu is doing galamsey with NDC party car-Nana Eba hinted.*

The then Wasa Amenfi East NDC youth organizer,Nana Eba has revealed that,Nana Meisu,a staunch member of the NDC party who is currently contesting for the organizing position is seriously doing galamsey with the NDC party car at Wasa Saaman,a town near to Wasa Akropng.

This revelation was made during one- on- one interview with Asonaba Banasco on Rivers90.1fm monitored by WAJA news team.

*NONE OF OUR CUSTOMERS SUFFERED HAIRCUT DESPITE ECONOMIC CHALLENGE-AMENFIMAN RURAL BANK CEO*

Dr. Alexander Asmah, Amenfiman Rural Bank Limited CEO has revealed that, none of their customer or institutional investor suffered a haircut despite COVID-19 pandemic, banking clean up exercise and the current economic hardship.

The country's fiscal and debt levels are approaching unsustainable levels which had raised concerns in the investment community culminating in the degrading of the country's credit ratings.

There have been some agitations by some public sector workers that, their pension Funds in Government treasury bills and instrument would be affected by the government's negotiations with the IMF and the possibility of a so-called domestic debt restructuring.

But according to Dr. Asmah, Amenfiman Rural Bank Limited structured things very well to the extent that all their customers were well secured.

The Chief Executive Officer for Amenfiman Rural Bank, Dr. Alexander Asmah has advised members of Wassa Amenfi Journalist Association (WAJA) to work all out in ensuring unity, togetherness and sustainability of their group.❤️❤️

Dr. Alexander Asmah made the passionate advice when the Executives of the group paid a courtesy call on him at his office today at Wassa Akropong.❣️✨✨

Journalists in Wassa Amenfi recently launched their registered association to serve as a month piece for its members and provide occupational support.

Speaking to WAJA executives today his office, the CEO pledged his support towards sustaining the group whiles he called on the executives to prioritize personal development of the association members.

He also urged them to build a capacity training for the young individuals who wish to take journalism as their career.
