Yesterday the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing visited the sea defense project at Dansoman to assess the state of work.

The Committee, led by Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah expressed dissatisfaction with the progress and quality of the Project. During the inspection, the committee noted that despite the project’s technical importance in protecting the shoreline from tidal waves, the level of work done, does not show a true reflection of the nearly $80 million contract especially as the local contractor lacks experience with such large-scale projects.

The ranking member, Hon. Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Karsah, together with the committee in supporting the chairman’s stance, noted that the work done does not reflect the scale of investment a therefore called for an audit. They expressed concern over the contractor’s slow progress, and emphasized the need to demonstrate greater capacity and commitment to timely project delivery.

Incumbent Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, 83, has won the country’s presidential election with 89,77℅ of the votes, according to the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI). The result was announced by Ibrahime Kuibiert-Coulibaly, the CEI president.‎‎

The candidate of the Rallye of Houphouetists for democracy and peace (RHDP) secured between 70% and 99% of the votes in most departments. The other candidates – Jean-Louis Billon, Simone Gbagbo, Ahoua Don Mello, and Henriette Lagou – none of them got 5℅ of the votes.
