Strengthening Collaboration for a Skilled Workforce and a Productive Future.
The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), in partnership with GIZ, on Thursday, 27 August 2026, held the Private Sector and TVET Rotational Dialogue Platform Workshop. The workshop brought together representatives from industry, Sector Skills Bodies, TVET institutions and other key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration between the TVET system and the private sector, with particular focus on the Construction and Electrical sectors. Discussions centred on industry skills needs, opportunities and challenges in TVET–industry partnerships, practical models for collaboration, and concrete actions to strengthen engagement.
Opening the workshop, the Director-General of CTVET emphasized that Ghana’s ambition to industrialize, create decent jobs, improve productivity and remain globally competitive requires a skilled and adaptable workforce. He stressed the need to move “from consultation to partnership,” with industry playing a meaningful role in shaping curricula, training delivery, assessment and the competencies required by the labour market.
A key focus of the dialogue was the development of concrete and innovative cooperation models between the public and private sectors, identification of private-sector skills development needs and practical actions for TVET, and exploration of ways to increase private-sector participation in Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) and other training partnerships. Particular attention was also given to expanding industry engagement beyond the major cities to create stronger skills development opportunities in underserved regions.
As the Director-General noted, workplace exposure gives learners access to real production environments, modern equipment, professional standards, teamwork and employer expectations that cannot be fully replicated in the classroom.
The workshop concluded with action planning around commitments, responsibilities and next steps, reinforcing CTVET’s commitment to building a demand-driven TVET system in which industry is not only a beneficiary of skilled graduates but an active partner in shaping their skills and competencies.
Through stronger public-private collaboration, CTVET remains committed to ensuring that the skills developed through Ghana’s TVET system translate into productive employment, competitive businesses, stronger industries and sustainable national economic prosperity.
