Exactly one week today after Sonnabel opened the Bagre dam, this is the level of water at the Kubore river.

This clearly indicates farmers wont have their farmlands destroyed this year by flood from the Bagre dam.

This means that, there have been low rainfall this year as compared to previous years.

83 Migrants Feared Dead After 27 Days Adrift at Sea

A journey that began with hope has ended in tragedy, with 83 migrants feared dead after a boat believed to have left The Gambia spent 27 days stranded in the Atlantic.

Spanish rescuers found the vessel about 120 kilometres southwest of Gran Canaria, carrying 44 survivors and five bodies.

The boat is believed to have left The Gambia in early August with 127 people on board. A Spanish migrant rights group says 83 people died during the journey, including a baby.

Three survivors were taken to hospital in critical condition.

For families back home, the tragedy brings heartbreak and painful uncertainty as they wait for news of loved ones who left in search of a better life.

The disaster is another grim reminder of the deadly risks Africans face on the Atlantic route to Spain’s Canary Islands.

They left with dreams of a better future. For many, the ocean became their final destination.

SONABEL SETS AUGUST 28 FOR SPILLAGE OF BAGRE DAM

The National Electricity Company of Burkina Faso (SONABEL), which manages the Bagre Dam, has announced that water spillage from the dam will begin on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

In a notice issued on August 27, SONABEL said the decision followed heavy rainfall in recent days, which has caused the reservoir’s water level to reach a critical threshold, making the release of excess water necessary.

Management of the organisation had earlier announced plans to commence the spillage this month, but the exercise was subsequently postponed.

A visit to the Kubore stretch of the White Volta in Ghana shows that water levels are currently relatively low, with the river yet to reach the brim of its banks.

However, the expected release of water from the Bagre Dam could significantly raise water levels downstream and potentially result in the flooding of farmlands and other low-lying areas along the White Volta.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has already cautioned farmers and residents living along the White Volta to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant ahead of the spillage.

Residents in flood-prone communities are therefore being urged to avoid crossing flooded waterways and take steps to protect lives, livestock and property.
