HAPPENINGS IN BAWKU CURRENTLY ‼️🚨🔔
PRESS RELEASE
15th September 2025
*RENEWED KUSASI ATTACKS THREATEN PEACE IN BAWKU*
Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), Bawku Chapter, strongly condemns the September 15, 2025, violent attacks by Kusasi bandits at an area called ‘Fadikafuta, Bawku, which tragically killed an innocent woman and severely injured seven others, which include women and commercial tricycle (“Mahama cando”/”yellow-yellow”) drivers.
This despicable act comes on the heels of their earlier unprovoked attack that claimed the life of a Bissa man. These serial acts of aggression clearly demonstrate the Kusasi bandits’ blatant disregard for peace and their deep-seated hostility towards any efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace in Bawku.
MAYA, Bawku Chapter, recalls the relative calm achieved following the Peace Enforcement Initiative. Regrettably, today’s cowardly attacks expose the insincerity of the Kusasis and their innate dislike for peace. Such barbaric acts not only violate the fragile peace but also threaten the safety, livelihood, and wellbeing of innocent citizens.
We therefore demand:
1. Swift military intervention to pursue and crash these lawless bandits without delay.
2. Immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent.
3. Closure of the unapproved Kusasis markets and barriers, which remains a flashpoint for these repeated attacks, and the unification of all markets under security control to ensure the safety of traders and residents alike.
MAYA, Bawku chapter, reaffirms its commitment to peace and development in Bawku. However, we will not sit idly while violent extremists wreak havoc on innocent lives. We call on the government, the security agencies, and all peace-loving Ghanaians to rise in unison and put an end to these unprovoked aggressions.
Justice must prevail, and peace must be safeguarded for the well-being of all in Bawku.
Signed:
*MAYA, Bawku Chapter*
