A 22-year-old Nigerian student, Isaac Satlat, who was supporting himself financially by working as an e-hailing driver for Bolt, was brutally murdered in Pretoria, South Africa, mere weeks prior to his graduation. The tragic incident occurred on February 11, 2026, in Pretoria West, when Satlat was allegedly hijacked and strangled by a male and female passenger who had booked a ride through the app. A dashboard camera reportedly captured the violent attack. His body and the hijacked vehicle were later discovered abandoned several kilometers away in Moshongo, Atteridgeville. The killing has triggered widespread outrage, particularly among Nigerians, and reignited serious concerns regarding the safety of foreign nationals—especially those in vulnerable gig economy positions—in South Africa. Gauteng police have since arrested a female suspect in connection with the crime, with further arrests anticipated as investigations continue. The suspect faces charges including murder and car hijacking and is scheduled to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court soon. Reports indicate Satlat was a dedicated student preparing to graduate the following month and had plans to relocate to Canada for further studies. His untimely death has left many mourning the loss of a promising young life cut short while striving to build a brighter future.
