Residents along the Bogoso–Prestea stretch are expressing deep frustration over the continued deterioration of the road, despite several promises by government to rehabilitate it.

In a press release issued today, the community-based group New Prestea Movement warned that patience among residents is running out. According to the group, the poor condition of the Bogoso–Prestea Road is affecting transportation, business activities, and daily life for people who rely on the route.

The group has therefore issued a strong warning to government authorities, stating that if immediate steps are not taken to fix the road, they will organize a demonstration to press home their demands.

Residents say the time for promises is over and are calling for urgent action to rehabilitate the road and restore safe travel for commuters and businesses in the area.

Following the incident, police officers arrived to convey the body to the hospital for further investigations and an autopsy. However, upon reaching the community, some residents initially resisted the move.

According to the Assembly Member, who provided updates on the situation, residents expressed deep frustration, arguing that authorities have long been aware of the dangers posed by the pit but failed to act.

Community members questioned why action seems to come only after lives are lost.

The situation led to a heated verbal exchange between some residents and the police. Though tensions were high, it did not escalate into physical violence. Eventually, the police were able to take the body for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the community continues to demand urgent and concrete measures — either the covering of the pit or the draining of the water — to prevent further tragedies.

Fix Bogoso-Prestea Road and I’ll Deliver Victory in 2028 — MP Appeals.

The Member of Parliament for Prestea-Huni Valley, Hon. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, has passionately appealed to the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, to intervene and urge the President to fix the deplorable Bogoso—Prestea road.

Hon. Cudjoe made the appeal when Mr. Asiedu Nketiah visited the constituency as part of his nationwide thank-you tour.

Addressing party supporters, the MP lamented the worsening condition of the road, describing it as a major burden on residents and businesses. He revealed that frustration over the road has grown so intense that someone on social media has threatened to lay curses on him whenever he steps his foot in Prestea, blaming him for the stalled project.

He therefore called on the President, through the party’s national leadership, to prioritize the rehabilitation of the road.

The MP pledged that if the President fixes the Bogoso–Prestea road, he would personally finance other developmental projects in the constituency with his own resources.

He further assured party leadership that once the road is completed, he would work tirelessly to help the NDC retain power in 2028.

Residents have long complained about the poor state of the road, which serves as a vital link within the mining municipality and surrounding communities.

Four Feared Dead in Pragya and Toyota Corolla Crash Near Bogoso Government Hospital

Four people (three guys and one lady) are feared dead following a tragic accident involving a Pragya (commercial tricycle) and a Toyota Corolla on the Bogoso–Tarkwa road near the Bogoso Government Hospital.

The accident occurred earlier today, leaving the Corolla severely damaged. The front of the vehicle was completely crushed, with its bonnet mangled, bumper ripped off, headlights destroyed, and windshield badly shattered — clear signs of a heavy impact.

According to eyewitnesses, the collision involved the Pragya and the Corolla, though the exact cause of the crash is yet to be officially established. The Pragya was reportedly carrying the victims at the time of the incident.

Unconfirmed reports from the scene suggest that the four occupants (3 guys and 1 lady) may have lost their lives. However, authorities have not yet officially confirmed any fatalities.

Residents and passersby quickly gathered at the scene to assist before emergency services intervened. Due to the proximity of the crash site to the Bogoso Government Hospital, victims were rushed there for medical attention.

The incident temporarily caused traffic congestion along the busy stretch of road as motorists slowed down. Police are expected to commence investigations to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.

Motorists are being urged to exercise caution, particularly on the Bogoso–Tarkwa highway, which continues to record frequent accidents.

THREE VEHICLES INVOLVED IN EARLY MORNING ACCIDENT AT APPIETE – NO CASUALTIES RECORDED

An accident involving three vehicles occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 10th February 2026, just after the Appiete GOIL Filling Station.

The crash involved a Mercedes Benz fully loaded with boxes and other items from Kumasi with the registration number AW 1849-22, a Ford with the registration number ER 1337-17 , and a red mini bus (Urvan) with the registration number GW 6648-25. According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened in the dawn hours when traffic was light, but visibility may have been reduced.

A short video recorded by the Weekend TV News Team captured the account of one of the victims, who explained that the vehicles collided moments after passing the filling station. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicles involved, leading to temporary disruption of traffic along the stretch.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, and all occupants of the vehicles escaped without life-threatening injuries. Some of the victims sustained minor bruises and shock but were treated at the scene.

Personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) later arrived to assess the situation and commenced investigations to determine the cause of the accident. The damaged vehicles were subsequently towed away to allow the free flow of traffic.

Residents and road users in the area are calling on drivers to exercise caution, especially during the early morning hours, to prevent similar incidents.
