On August 3, 2021, iTouch media visited Chiana Pio (The title for the Chief of Chiana) who also is the president of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs to interact with him and to introduce to him iTouch Media.
He was happy with our efforts and promised to support us. He gave us his blessings and allowed us to work within the region.
It was a very insightful moment and he kept up laughing with his jokes.
We are most grateful for your support Daddy.

Babatu or Baba Ato, was the Djerma military leader and jihadi warlord over the Zabarma Emirate in the late 19th century. Babatu originated in Indougou (N'Dougou) in what is today the nation of Niger. Babatu became the ruler of the Zabarima emirate in 1878 after the death of the former ruler, Gazari. He was slaver and fought against Sandema warriors.
In 1887 his forces raided Wa the capital of the Kingdom of Wala and caused much of the population to flee.

According to historians, Babatu was said to have hailed from Indunga, a town in Niger. He recruited people from Grunshie Mossi, Hausa and Fulani as fighters who took part in slave raids in the Northern Territories.

Babatu attacked the Builsa for about three months. He captured many warriors of the village of Wiaga as prisoners. Some of the warriors rushed to Sandema and he pursued them. Babatu was defeated in a battle that took place in a hill between Sandema and Fiisa called Azagsuk. The warriors from Navrongo, Fumbisi, and Kunkwa united as one Builsa.
It is claimed the battle took place between 1890 and March 1897. Other sources claim it took place between the market and where the current Old Primary School is in 1896.

The Feok Festival is celebrated every year in the third week of December to mark their victory and encounter with the slave raiders and also the War dance after it became a public event in 1972. The festival means abundance of food.
War dancers from different villages in the region perform on stage. They are armed with bows and arrows, short axes, shields and spears to relive scenes from wars from the previous years. There are also scenes of resistance and how Babatu was defeated.

Below is a short video about the Feok Festival

The African Continent has the richest culture but as Zeinab Badawi explains in her writeup on BBC, One of Africa's best kept secrets - its history, “Africa has a rich and complex history but there is widespread ignorance of this heritage.” A celebrated British historian once said there was only the history of Europeans in Africa.
According to Allison Suesse in his write-up, Africa rich in culture, tradition, history, One assistant professor explains — There are two different continents of Africa, “CNN Africa,” which American media portrays as being impoverished, desolate and torn apart by war, and the real Africa, a continent rich in history, diversity and traditions.”

We are at a time where Africans shy away from their local names and do not want to be identified as Africans, some cannot speak their local languages and laugh at those who can speak their local language but cannot correctly speak the English language and a lot others are styruggling to leave the African continent.
“Our culture is fading away” is a statement that has been abused, everyone uses and agrees to it but few are making the efforts to preserve it.

We at iTouch Media seek to use the digital platforms to teach and preserve our fading culture so we can continue to remember who we are and our children and children’s-children many generations to come and long after we are gone would continue to know who they are and practice what they are.
