FDA Suspends Production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix — Orders Immediate Market Recall

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has taken a decisive step by suspending the production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix. This action includes an immediate recall of all canned variants and selected pouch batches of the popular tomato product from the Ghanaian market.

The move comes as part of the Authority’s commitment to ensuring public health and safety. Though details of the suspension are still unfolding, the FDA assures the public that it is working closely with the manufacturers to investigate and address the issue swiftly.

Consumers are advised to check the labels of any Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products in their possession and avoid usage of the affected batches. Retailers are also instructed to remove the recalled products from their shelves immediately.

Tension arose at the Nyariga market in the Upper East Region on Thursday morning when police arrived to transport the body of a young man suspected of having been shot during an attempted robbery.

Preliminary information suggests that the deceased was a pillion rider allegedly trying to sn**ch a motorcycle. It remains unclear whether he was shot by his intended victim or by another party, but residents reported hearing gunshots during the night.

The motorcycle rider, believed to have escaped the attack, has been asked by the police to assist with the investigation as authorities work to clarify the events surrounding the incident.

Some residents expressed shock upon discovering the lifeless body at the market. This incident has sparked a mix of fear and curiosity among locals, many of whom are calling for increased security measures in the area.

The body has been transported to the mortuary for preservation and an autopsy as police continue their investigations.
