Former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair is reportedly involved in high-level discussions to lead a post-war transitional authority in Gaza, a plan supported by the White House. The proposed governing body, backed by the UN and Gulf nations, aims to manage Gaza temporarily before transferring control back to the Palestinians. Blair, who previously served as Middle East envoy for the Quartet and led the UK into the 2003 Iraq War, has emphasized he would not support any plan that displaces Gaza’s residents. The discussions come amid ongoing conflict following the Hamas-led attack on Israel in October 2023, with significant casualties in Gaza and calls for a two-state peace solution from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
