CHIEF OF DONASO DONATES GH₵10,000 FOR REINSTATEMENT OF YAA ASANTEWAA STATUE IN EJISU
Nana Kwasi Agyekum, Chief of Donaso and Convener of the Culture and Tourism Subcommittee for the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, has donated Gh₵10,000 to support the reinstatement of the Nana Yaa Asantewaa statue at the Ejisu roundabout.
The historic statue, which once stood proudly at the roundabout, was removed during the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Highway but was never returned after the project’s completion. The absence of the monument has been a lingering concern for local residents and cultural advocates.
Nana Agyekum’s donation underscores his commitment to preserving Ejisu’s rich heritage and honouring the legacy of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary Ashanti queen mother who led the War of the Golden Stool against British colonial rule.
Community leaders and historians have welcomed the gesture, calling it a crucial step toward restoring a key symbol of Ashanti pride and resistance. Plans are now underway to reinstall the statue at its original location.
