The President seems to be struggling in his explanation on the cedi. He openly admitted that the Bank of Ghana was intervening, creating the false impression that the cedi was appreciating against the dollar. Now that the intervention has stopped, the cedi is back on the rise.

In his submission, he claimed that every country is trying to strike a balance between exporters and importers, and that the cedi is merely “adjusting” to settle at a certain rate. But what he conveniently failed to explain is which concrete policies his government has in place to achieve the 5% annual depreciation target he himself mentioned.

This kind of vague rhetoric only exposes the lack of a clear strategy, leaving Ghanaians to suffer while the cedi keeps falling.
