The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called on the Christian Health Association of Ghana - CHAG to take a leading role in driving the governmentโs Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) agenda, describing the faith-based health network as a critical partner in expanding access to quality healthcare across the country.
Speaking at the CHAG Annual Conference 2026 ongoing in Koforidua on the theme, โ๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฝ๐น๐ฒ-๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ต ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐น,โ the Minister commended CHAG for its longstanding contribution to healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach communities across the country.
He noted that CHAGโs extensive presence and trusted relationship with communities make it uniquely positioned to support the successful rollout of the Free Primary Healthcare programme.
Hon. Akandoh emphasized that the Free Primary Healthcare policy will improve access to maternal and child healthcare, immunisation, routine screening for non-communicable diseases, malaria treatment, and other essential services.
The Minister also called for a renewed focus on quality service delivery, urging health professionals to complement clinical excellence with compassion, dignity, and respect for patients.
โPatients often feel treated, but not always cared for,โ he stated, stressing that the success of healthcare reforms depends not only on access to services but also on the experience of care.
The Executive Director of CHAG, Dr. Peter Kwame Yeboah, reaffirmed the Associationโs commitment to supporting national health priorities and strengthening primary healthcare delivery across Ghana.
He noted that CHAG continues to provide critical healthcare services in some of the countryโs most remote and underserved communities, often serving as the only source of care.
He called for stronger collaboration among government, development partners, faith-based institutions, and communities to drive innovation, expand healthcare access, and improve health outcomes.
This yearโs conference aims to align the CHAG's mission with Ghana's Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) initiative, while also reflecting the 2026 World Health Summit Regional focus on people-centred and community-led primary healthcare.
