The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of Komenda College of Education has officially handed over a newly constructed 10-unit store facility to the management of the college, marking a significant step in improving the institution’s infrastructure and commercial capacity.

The project, which began on paper in April 2025, moved into the construction phase in May and reached completion in September 1, 2025.

Rekadom Enterprise, the contracted construction company, formally handed over the completed facility to the SRC before the ceremonial handover to the college management during a short but significant ceremony on September 3, 2025.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Principal, Very Rev. Professor Kwesi Nkum Wilson, praised the collaborative efforts of two successive SRC administrations for initiating and completing the project.

“This project began under the 2023/2024 SRC administration led by Master Emmanuel Addo, who had the foresight to set aside part of their dues to start something meaningful. The 2024/2025 administration, led by Master Prince Botwe, built on that foundation, and today we see the fruits of their commitment,” Professor Wilson noted.

He explained that the college management played a supporting role, liaising with Rekadom Enterprise, engaging KEEA Municipal Engineers, and working closely with the Head of Works to ensure proper planning, compliance, and ex*****on.

According to the principal, the new stores will play a crucial role in the college’s broader development agenda.

“As we plan to construct an ultra-modern shopping mall in the near future, the traders currently occupying the area earmarked for the mall will need to be relocated. These new stores provide a perfect transition space for them,” he said.

“We currently have six traders to relocate, which means the remaining units can be used by the SRC for other student-related activities. The Market Committee will begin allocations after the official commissioning on Friday, September 5, 2025,” he added.

Professor Wilson also commended Rekadom Enterprise for their dedication, assuring them that any outstanding financial obligations would be settled as agreed.

In his remarks, the Bishop of the Cape Coast Diocese, Rt. Rev. Richardson A. Andam, lauded the SRC’s leadership for prioritizing sustainable development projects.

“This is indeed a yeoman’s job,” he said. “What you have done will not only serve the college today but will continue to benefit future generations. I encourage other SRCs to emulate such initiatives—projects that leave a legacy rather than fade away with time.”

He finally received the keys to the facility on behalf of the Presiding Bishop of Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, and subsequently handed them to the principal for the college’s official use.

The college’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Godwin Anane, who moderated the ceremony, praised the SRC’s prudent use of funds.

“This is a lesson in leadership and vision,” he said. “By investing in something tangible and beneficial, you have set a standard for those who will come after you. I am confident that future SRC administrations will be inspired to do even more.”

Representatives of Rekadom Enterprise, in their brief remarks, assured the college of a six-month maintenance support period to address any unforeseen technical issues.

The ceremony was also attended by members of the college management, staff, SRC executives, and other stakeholders.

ATVET Exhibition 2025: Igniting Innovation to Facilitate Skills for Tomorrow
Komenda, 21st August 2025 Komenda College of Education successfully hosted the ATVET Exhibition 2025 under the theme “Igniting Innovation to Facilitate Skills for Tomorrow.” The event showcased the exceptional talent and creativity of students across technical and vocational disciplines, highlighting the college’s commitment to equipping learners with practical skills for the future.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries including leaders of the Methodist Church of Ghana, representatives of the Komenda Traditional Council, management members of the college, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and community members. Participating schools included Asuansi Technical Institute, Komenda Secondary Technical SHS, and Cape Coast Technical Institute.
Ms. Theodora Asamoah Gyadu, wife of the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana and co-chairperson of the exhibition, expressed gratitude to the college principal and participants. She emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education, encouraging students to aspire to careers in these fields and inspire others in their communities to do the same.
The Principal, Very Rev. Prof. Kwesi Nkum Wilson, welcomed all guests and highlighted the significance of the exhibition as a college-wide initiative. He noted that previous exhibitions had been limited to individual departments, but this year, all units including Agriculture, Technical, Home Economics, and Visual Arts were brought together to showcase student projects.
Prof. Wilson stressed that in Ghana, TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) has not yet been given the recognition it deserves. Although there is a TVET Council and related services, much remains to be done. Addressing unemployment in the country requires a strong focus on TVET, as it equips students and trainees with practical skills, enabling them to earn their own income and even become self-employed. Students in the college, who may be posted after their national service, should recognize the importance of having a second source of income through vocational skills. The college encourages students to develop these skills, investing significantly in TVET programs across various departments. For instance, the Clothing Department produces school uniforms for Level 100 students, and plans are underway to expand this initiative next year. The principal also pledged to offer admission to qualified students from visiting technical schools, warmly welcoming all guests to the exhibition.
The Head of the ATVET Department, Mr. Bentil Patrick Ogoe, provided an overview of the diverse and impactful activities within the college. He highlighted the Agricultural Programme, which equips students with essential skills in sustainable farming, crop management, animal husbandry, food processing, and environmental stewardship. Through hands-on projects, students develop creativity, critical thinking, and professional skills vital for their future careers.
Hon. Ishmail Zagoon-Saeed, Municipal Chief Executive of KEEA, representing the Central Regional Minister, praised the exhibition for bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-life application. He described the theme as a powerful call to action, showcasing the creativity and technical skills of students in a competitive global environment.
Mrs. Hannah Asamoah, Regional Director of GTVET, encouraged students to pursue careers in technical and vocational education and to inspire others in their communities to join the sector.
The exhibition concluded with closing remarks by Ms. Theodora Asamoah Gyadu, who commended the organizers and participants for their dedication and creativity. Following the opening ceremony, all dignitaries toured the exhibition, viewing and engaging with the students’ innovative projects.
The ATVET Exhibition 2025 successfully provided a platform for students to present their work, reinforcing Komenda College of Education’s commitment to nurturing skilled, resourceful, and self-reliant graduates ready to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.

The Principal of Komenda College of Education, Very Rev. Prof. Kwesi Nkum Wilson, has once again brought honour to the institution by playing a leading role at the 16th International Society for the Study of Behaviour Development (ISSBD) African Regional Workshop, held from August 5–7, 2025, at the University of South Africa (UNISA), Pretoria.
Prof. Nkum was specially invited as a senior resource person by the ISSBD Organizing Committee to guide and mentor over 40 early-career researchers (ECRs) from across Africa. He facilitated sessions on the theme “Achieving Academic Excellence: Exploring the Nexus Between Scholarship and Administrative Effectiveness.”
In his keynote presentation, Prof. Nkum addressed the complex dual role of the modern academic in African institutions: balancing rigorous research and innovative teaching with demanding administrative duties. He emphasized that true academic excellence lies in integrating scholarly pursuits with effective leadership and operational support. Drawing on experiences from Ghanaian institutions like Komenda College and the University of Education, Winneba, he illustrated how administrative engagement can both inform and benefit from academic research.
“Administrative responsibilities are not secondary,” he stated. “They are the backbone that supports the entire academic enterprise. Without effective administration, even the most brilliant research cannot flourish.”
He further advocated for institutions to recognize the value of administrative roles alongside academic output. He proposed strategic approaches such as protecting dedicated research time, fostering interdisciplinary work, and ensuring fair workload allocations to support academics navigating these dual expectations.
In addition to the workshop presentation, Prof. Nkum, alongside Mr. Cyril Ababio T***y, the Deputy Dean of Academics at the Komenda College of Education also presented a powerful research poster titled "Leveraging Indigenous Cultural Practices to Advance Inclusive Education: Perspectives from Ghana." The study argued for the revitalization of Ghanaian traditions like communalism, storytelling, and kinship to support inclusive education for youth with disabilities. Their work introduced a “Community as Classroom” model and called for deeper collaboration between educational policymakers and traditional authorities.
Prof. Nkum’s participation not only showcased the intellectual and cultural wealth of Komenda College but also contributed meaningfully to broader conversations about academic leadership, cultural integration, and inclusive education on the African continent.
