PRICES OF FOODSTUFF HAVE GONE UP IN SOME MARKETS IN GHANA, A SURVEY, HAS REVEALED.
Visits to the Adansi Fumso market, revealed that the prices of foodstuffs has shot up because of some traders selfish interest.According to the traders in Adansi Fumso market it’s a season for plantain and yam but some market women are basing on the hardship crises in the country to increase the prices of foodstuffs.
Its plantain and yam season yet consumers cannot afford it in our market places
Grace Adoma, a Yam seller at Adansi Fumso market, explained to AHDIEKYE RADIO that majority of the traders want to get 5 times profit, because of the hardship in the country. Some of market women want to use it as an advantage to gain more profits, bunch of plantain, which was sold between GH¢20.00 and GH¢25.00 is now being sold between GH¢30.00 and GH¢50.00
“This happens every year because there are wicked traders among the good ones and the increment of foodstuffs should be at the dry season where traders find it difficult to get goods, she appealed to consumers to snub expensive foodstuffs available on the market and go for the cheap prices.Auntie Fosua, a farmer who supplies plantain to some market women said there are a lot of plantain on the market because it is plantain season.
Madam Afia Ampomaah, a plantain supplier within the Adansi Fumso market, said she used to supply about three tracks of Plantain a week.
“This place is always busy during plantain seasons at cheaper cost, but as you can see now, it is as if nothing goes on here and those we have available are quite expensive”.
