WENCHI: MP, MCE ENGAGE LOCAL COUNCIL OF CHURCHES IN A THANK YOU TOUR
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wenchi Constituency Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi have jointly engaged the Local Council of Churches in Wenchi in a Familiarisation and Thank You Tour.
The meeting was amongst other purposes; part of activities and efforts to thank the Council and the people at large for their votes in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections that have enabled the victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The Engagement was also a familiarisation tour to officially introduce the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to familiarize with the people upon assumption of Office as the Representative of the President of the Republic. The Engagement deepened the bilateral relation between the Religious Body and the Political leadership as key partners in national development.
Addressing the Clergy consisting Rev Ministers, Prophets, Evangelists and Men & Women of the Gospel, the MP Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna and the MCE Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi who took turns to speak, jointly expressed appreciation for the intercessory prayers and spiritual warfare support being offered by the Clergy on behalf of the President of the Republic H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
The MP expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Pastors for offering their platforms in their Churches and Worship Centres to engage their members and congregants during the electioneering campaign which culminated into his second term victory. He acknowledged the crucial roles the Clergy played in diverse ways to ensure peace in the 2024 General Elections, stressing that it was an answered prayer worth celebrating and thanking God for. The MP elated that his re-election was an inspiration to work harder and the need to fulfil promises made to the people. He acknowledged the Party's overwhelming majority in Parliament and the landslide Presidential victory were testament of endorsement by the Ghanaian electorates and pledged his commitment to ensure that Wenchi gets its share of development. He disclosed plans to provide job for at least one indigen from every Community in the Constituency as part of efforts to tackle youth unemployment. He re-echoed his commitment to enhancing the socio-economic lives of the people through his policy initiatives such as Youth Empowerment, Skills Development Training, Job opportunities, Educational Support/Scholarship to brilliant but needy students, Infrastructural development Projects, etc.
The MCE on her part, stated her profound appreciation and resolve to partner with the MP to lobby for projects and development with a clarion call on the Local Council of Churches and believers in the Christian faith to take special interest national development and get onboard in the progress and development of Wenchi. The MCE emphasized and appreciated the crucial role the Clergy played as Heads and Shepherds of the Lord's flock in the organization and mobilization of their church members for congregational intercessory prayers for peace before, during and after the Elections. She pledged to collaborate with the MP and serve as a link between the Government and the people to lobby for projects and address the pressing needs of the people. She disclosed plans to carry out data collection to identify skilled and unskilled human resource in the Municipality, establish Community Satellite Markets to boost commercial activities and economic opportunities, extend electricity, road infrastructure, intensify security measures to protect traders from armed robbery.
The Clergy expressed appreciation and commended the MP and the MCE for the engagement noting it was the first of its kind. They enumerated some concerns for attention and redress which include Township Roads and Access Routes to suburbs in Wenchi, Structural and infrastructure Plan, extension of pipelines of the Wenchi Water Project, extension of Electricity, Streetlights, Security measures to combat Armed Robbery and other crime related activities. The Clergy also expressed concern about destruction of farm crops and farmlands by herds of Cattle leading to deadly perennial clash between Cattle Herdsmen and Crop Farmers affecting food production and food security, etc. The Men of God charged the MP and MCE not to be to obstructed but remain focused in delivering on their promises and Social Contract with the people of Ghana.
The MP and MCE were accompanied by the NDC Constituency Executives including the Chairman Mr Ansumah, Organizer Mr Mohammed Suleman Akida, Communications Officer Mr Seth Kobbins Sofara and Deputy Mr Ahmed Yahaya, Dep Treasurer Madam Jemilatu Ibrahim, Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Zongo Magajia, immediate past Chairman and Regional Executive Mr. S.S. Wahab, Wenchi Municipal Assembly Information Director Mr Stanick Sofel Amuzu Kpodo, Deputy Coordinating Director Mr Ato Mends, Assembly Members, amongst others.
