WENCHI: MP, MCE ENGAGE LOCAL COUNCIL OF CHURCHES IN A THANK YOU TOUR

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wenchi Constituency Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi have jointly engaged the Local Council of Churches in Wenchi in a Familiarisation and Thank You Tour.

The meeting was amongst other purposes; part of activities and efforts to thank the Council and the people at large for their votes in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections that have enabled the victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The Engagement was also a familiarisation tour to officially introduce the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to familiarize with the people upon assumption of Office as the Representative of the President of the Republic. The Engagement deepened the bilateral relation between the Religious Body and the Political leadership as key partners in national development.

Addressing the Clergy consisting Rev Ministers, Prophets, Evangelists and Men & Women of the Gospel, the MP Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna and the MCE Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi who took turns to speak, jointly expressed appreciation for the intercessory prayers and spiritual warfare support being offered by the Clergy on behalf of the President of the Republic H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.

The MP expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Pastors for offering their platforms in their Churches and Worship Centres to engage their members and congregants during the electioneering campaign which culminated into his second term victory. He acknowledged the crucial roles the Clergy played in diverse ways to ensure peace in the 2024 General Elections, stressing that it was an answered prayer worth celebrating and thanking God for. The MP elated that his re-election was an inspiration to work harder and the need to fulfil promises made to the people. He acknowledged the Party's overwhelming majority in Parliament and the landslide Presidential victory were testament of endorsement by the Ghanaian electorates and pledged his commitment to ensure that Wenchi gets its share of development. He disclosed plans to provide job for at least one indigen from every Community in the Constituency as part of efforts to tackle youth unemployment. He re-echoed his commitment to enhancing the socio-economic lives of the people through his policy initiatives such as Youth Empowerment, Skills Development Training, Job opportunities, Educational Support/Scholarship to brilliant but needy students, Infrastructural development Projects, etc.

The MCE on her part, stated her profound appreciation and resolve to partner with the MP to lobby for projects and development with a clarion call on the Local Council of Churches and believers in the Christian faith to take special interest national development and get onboard in the progress and development of Wenchi. The MCE emphasized and appreciated the crucial role the Clergy played as Heads and Shepherds of the Lord's flock in the organization and mobilization of their church members for congregational intercessory prayers for peace before, during and after the Elections. She pledged to collaborate with the MP and serve as a link between the Government and the people to lobby for projects and address the pressing needs of the people. She disclosed plans to carry out data collection to identify skilled and unskilled human resource in the Municipality, establish Community Satellite Markets to boost commercial activities and economic opportunities, extend electricity, road infrastructure, intensify security measures to protect traders from armed robbery.

The Clergy expressed appreciation and commended the MP and the MCE for the engagement noting it was the first of its kind. They enumerated some concerns for attention and redress which include Township Roads and Access Routes to suburbs in Wenchi, Structural and infrastructure Plan, extension of pipelines of the Wenchi Water Project, extension of Electricity, Streetlights, Security measures to combat Armed Robbery and other crime related activities. The Clergy also expressed concern about destruction of farm crops and farmlands by herds of Cattle leading to deadly perennial clash between Cattle Herdsmen and Crop Farmers affecting food production and food security, etc. The Men of God charged the MP and MCE not to be to obstructed but remain focused in delivering on their promises and Social Contract with the people of Ghana.

WENCHI: ASSEMBLY HOLDS NATIONAL SANITATION DAY - CLEAN UP EXERCISE

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Wenchi Traditional Council and Office of the Member of Parliament has held a General Clean Up Exercise.

The Exercise, in line with the Government's National Sanitation Day Programme was led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi with full support and participation of the Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of the Wenchi Traditional Area and Office of the MP.

The MP Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna donated Wheel Barrows, Shovels, Rakes, Wellington Boots, Long Brooms and other equipment and logistics for the Clean Up Exercise.

The main objective of the Sanitation Programme is to get rid of filth to make and keep our cities and environment clean and safe from diseases and enhance public health and the wellbeing of the people.

The Exercise began at 6:00am and ended at 10:00am where the general public gathered at the Wenchi New Thursday Market ready with their working tools for Address to begin brooms, rakes, shovels, spades, wheel barrows, hand gloves, Wellington Boots, nose masks, etc. Leadership addressed the gathering to commence the Exercise.

The Municipal Chief Executive Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi expressed and appreciation in the turn out and underscored the importance of the Government's National Sanitation Day Programme instituted by the President of the Republic His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to promote and protect our health and wellbeing. She called on all to support the initiative for healthy living. She reiterated her unwavering commitment towards accelerated development and progress to make Wenchi a better place desired by all. She sensitized the public from littering around and emphasized concerted efforts to improve Sanitation and promote and project the Wenchi Municipality on an enviable pedestal.

The Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of the Wenchi Traditional Area His Royal Highness Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III also appreciated the people for responding to the call and tasked the public to adhere to Environmental Health and Sanitation By Laws.

The Municipal Environmental Health Office (MEHO) Madam Gertrude Lenseni announced the allocated areas for the Exercise.

The Exercise began from the Thursday Market and the new Lorry Loading Station riddled with filth through to other close suburbs. Groups were assigned to various demarcated and allocated areas inside and outside the Market. Other public places such as the Daily Market, Old Station, Lorry Parks, Principal Streets, channels and drains, choked gutters and waterways were desilted. Concrete culverts and pavement over drains and channels were opened to have access to the clearing of choked gutters and garbage-filled channels. Streets were swept clean. Heaps of garbage and refuse at the heart of town and other central business areas, Lorry Stations, Market Centres, were cleared to the final diposal sites.

To ensure effective and all inclusive participation, the Assembly initiated some directives during the Exercise; All Shops, Stores, Containers were closed. All commercial and economic activities remained closed until end of Exercise except emergency services. Food vendors were equally disallowed from selling until end of the Exercise. Vehicles, Tricycles (Pragyia and Motor King) and other Transport Operators, were also disallowed from operation until end of the Exercise. However, Hospitals/Clinics, Health Centres, Laboratories, Health workers, Nurses, Doctors on duty, Pharmacies, Drug Stores (Over the Counter), Fuel Stations were exempted but must clean their workplaces and homes.

Churches, Mosques, Schools, Keep Fit Clubs, Social Groups, Institutions, Organizations and the general public participated in the Exercise. The Wenchi Methodist Hospital donated packs of Nose Masks to the Assembly received by the Municipal Coordinating Director Mr Jimah Yakubu for distribution to support the Exercise. The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) Equipment were deployed to collect the refuse heaps to the final diposal sites. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Thunder and Team of personnel took charge to flash choked gutters and drains along the streets including the central business area.

The MCE and MP finally addressed the gathering again for their resilience and hard work to the carry out the Exercise.

The Exercise was climaxed with a mammoth float from the Thursday Market through the Principal Streets in the Wenchi Township and ended at the Old Market Square to herald the Campaign message on the Government National Sanitation Day Programme to encourage the people to get involved to make and keep Wenchi clean and safe.

The Exercise was held simultaneously across the Municipality with the involvement of the Assembly Members and their Unit Committees in various Electoral Areas.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wenchi Constituency Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi have jointly embarked on a Thank You and Familiarisation Tour to the Buoku Community in the Wenchi Municipality to thank the people in the area for voting the NDC into power.

The Tour was amongst other purposes; part of activities and efforts to thank the people for their votes in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections that have enabled the victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The tour was also a familiarisation tour to officially introduce the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to familiarize with the people as she assumed Office as the Representative of the President of the Republic.

Addressing the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders and people of the area, the MP Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna and the MCE Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi jointly thanked the Chiefs and people of the area, on behalf of the President of the Republic H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
The MP and MCE with Team comprising NDC Constituency Executives and the Wenchi Municipal Assembly were warmly received with a Durbar organised by the Community.

The MP thanked the people for voting him and the NDC into power. The MP elated that his election was an inspiration to work harder and the need to fulfil promises with their support. He acknowledged the Party's majority in all sectors as a testament of their overwhelming support and endorsement for the Party. He pledged to ensure that the Community receives its fair share of development. He disclosed his plans to initiate Community Help Projects to construct, Water and address youth unemployment. He re-echoed his commitment to enhancing the socio-economic lives of the people through his policy initiatives such as Youth Empowerment, Skills Development Training, Job opportunities, Educational Support/Scholarship, Infrastructural development Projects Roads, etc.

The MCE pledged to collaborate with the MP and serve as a link between the Government and the people to lobby for projects and address their pressing needs. She reiterated her unwavering commitment to facilitating development to meet the growing demands of the people. She disclosed plans to carry out data collection to identify skilled and unskilled human resource in the Municipality, establish Community Satellite Markets, extend Road infrastructure, equip the proposed Health Centre when constructed, extend water other parts of the Community, ensure proper, intensify security measures to protect traders.

The Chiefs and people of the Community expressed appreciation to the MP for the expansion and construction Male, Female and Children Wards with continuous support and donation of items including Beds and Medical Equipment few weeks ago to equip the Buoku Community Health Centre. The Chiefs commended the MP for his hard work and humility and advised the MCE to emulate the MP's humility and support his development initiatives.
They further appealed for Nurses/Teachers Bungalow/Quarters, Community Sports Park, construction and rehabilitation of feeder roads to connect communities in the Municipality to boost commercial opportunities and economic activities. Other needs requested by the people included drinking water, renovation of their Community Market Centre, extension of Electricity, Streetlights, Security measures to combat Armed Robbery. The people also complained about destruction of farm crops and farmlands by Cattle, perennial clash between Cattle Herdsmen and Crop Farmers hampering agriculture and food production and food security, extortion of money from farmers by the Police at checkpoints, youth unemployment, etc.

The MP and MCE also held meetings with Party members and Executives at the Local/Branch and Polling Station levels to thank them for their resilience, dedication, commitment, hard work and sacrifice in their diverse roles during the campaign activities and the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Polls that had achieved the desired outcome and brought the Party into power. They urged them to support the government to fulfil and deliver on their promises and Social Contract with the people of Ghana.

He re-echoed his commitment to enhancing the socio-economic lives of the people through his policy initiatives such as Youth Empowerment, Skills Development Training, Job opportunities, Educational Support/Scholarship, Infrastructural development Projects Roads, etc.

The MCE pledged to collaborate with the MP and serve as a link between the Government and the people to lobby for projects and address their pressing needs. She reiterated her unwavering commitment to facilitating development to meet the growing demands of the people. She disclosed plans to carry out data collection to identify skilled and unskilled human resource in the Municipality, establish Community Satellite Markets, extend Road infrastructure, equip the proposed Health Centre when constructed, extend water other parts of the Community, ensure proper, intensify security measures to protect traders.

The Chiefs and people of Community appealed for construction of Health Centre at least Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compound, Community Durbar Grounds/Social Centre, Teachers Bungalow/Quarters, Community Sports Park. The people also appealed for construction and rehabilitation of feeder roads to inter- connect communities in the Municipality to boost commercial opportunities and economic activities. Other needs requested by the people included drinking water, extension of Electricity, Streetlights, Community Centre/Durbar Ground, inner roads, Security measures to combat Armed Robbery. The people also complained about destruction of farm crops and farmlands by Cattle, perennial clash between Cattle Herdsmen and Crop Farmers hampering agriculture and food production and food security, extortion of money from farmers by the Police at checkpoints, youth unemployment, etc.

The MP and MCE also held separate meetings with Party members and Executives at the Local/Branch and Polling Station levels to thank them for their resilience, dedication, commitment, hard work and sacrifice in their diverse roles during the campaign activities and the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Polls that had achieved the desired outcome and brought the Party into power. They urged them to support the government to fulfil and deliver on their promises and Social Contract with the people of Ghana.

The MP and MCE were accompanied by the NDC Constituency Executives including the Chairman Mr Ansumah, Organizer Mr Mohammed Suleman Akida, Communications Officer Mr Seth Kobbins Sofara and Deputy Mr Ahmed Yahaya, Dep Treasurer, Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Zongo Magadjia, immediate past Chairman S.S. Wahab, Wenchi Municipal Assembly Information Director, Deputy Coordinating Director, Assembly Members, amongst others.
