Press statement For Immediate Release
August 7,2025
Saclepea Students Union endorses the today "Say no to drugs" peaceful march nationwide and call on the government of Liberia to implement the amendment drugs law.
Comrades and compatriots, ideological students and scholarly custodians, guardians of the fourth estate, esteemed ladies and gentlemen, the Saclepea Students Union (SASU), the most illustrious organized student movement, stands rooted in the timeless doctrines of Pan-African consciousness, and unwavering commitment to pro-people struggle and transformation.
Fellow compatriots, it is unarguable that narcotics are seriously destroying the fabrics of our Liberian society, killing bright minds and talented youths and students as well as undermining Liberia’s development. We think the fight against pandemic should be holistic and that SASU cannot sit back while the future of Liberia is mortgaged by the silent genocide of narcotics.
Drug proliferation has not only eroded the vitality of our youth, but it has become an existential threat to national security, public health, and institutional sanity. The Student Vanguard must therefore rise resolute, united, and unafraid.
Against this, the Saclepea Student Union (SASU) wishes to officially endorse the today Say no to drugs nationwide peaceful march Against Drugs, a national campaign aimed at raising awareness and calling for urgent action against the devastating impact of narcotics in Liberia.
As the voice of the students and a advocate for students SASU views the fight against drugs as a critical national priority. The growing wave of drug addiction—especially among young people—continues to erode the moral, educational, and social foundations of our society.
We can no longer remain silent as dangerous substances like kush, tramadol, and co***ne spread unchecked in our communities, destroying lives, crippling potential, and undermining national development. It is important to stress that the today rally represents not just a protest, but a call to conscience—a declaration that, we, Liberians, especially the students and youths will not stand by while our future is being destroyed.
Against this backdrop, the Saclepea Students’ Union is therefore calling on all well-meaning Liberians—students, parents, teachers, youth groups, civil society organizations, politicians, religious institutions, and community leaders—to join this peaceful fights against drugs today upward. Let us stand in unity and make history together by collectively sending a strong message: Liberians say “NO” to drugs and “YES” to your Future and Liberia’s Sustainable Development!
SASU also call on the Government of Liberia, through the requisite authorities, the office of the President, the National Legislature, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education, and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), to intensify efforts in combating the importation, distribution, and use of illegal drugs, while prioritizing rehabilitation and in support for victims of drugs addiction.
Again, we want to vigorously emphasize that the today March is not merely a protest, it is an awakening. It is a loud and defiant echo from the classrooms of slums to the campuses of high schools, demanding that the Liberian state takes decisive action against cartels, and END the culture of impunity now in the fight against drugs in Liberia. The Liberian Government MUST treat drugs related cases as national emergencies with zero compromising,
SASA reaffirms that the fight against drugs is a fight for our survival. It is a fight we must win. In the cause of social justice, academic excellence, and freedom,SASU REMAINS!
The fight against drugs is not just a fight for today—it is a fight for the future of our nation.
SASU remains committed to advocating for students' rights and the development of Liberia through peaceful and collaborative means.
