WHERE IS THE NATIONAL BANK FOR BULUK?
Dear President John Dramani Mahama, for decades, the people of Buluk have contributed to the development of Ghana through agriculture, trade, public service, education, and hard work. Yet one basic service that many districts and municipalities take for granted remains absent in our area: a national commercial bank.
Today, Buluk is represented in Parliament by two experienced MPs—Hon. James Agalga of Builsa North and Clement Apaakof Builsa South—who have collectively spent many years in Parliament and have held significant positions in government. Despite this, residents of Buluk still have to travel to Navrongo, Bolgatanga, and other towns to access many essential banking services. The bad nature of the Chuchuliga - Wiesi road does not facilitate easy travel.
The question is simple: Why does Buluk still not have a national bank?
-The Burden on Students
One of the biggest victims of this situation is our students.
Many schools, universities, and institutions require payments through banks. Students and parents often have to travel long distances simply to make deposits, verify transactions, or resolve banking issues. This means:
1. Spending money on transportation.
2. Losing valuable time.
3. Missing classes or work.
4. Facing unnecessary stress during admission and registration periods.
In an era where education is supposed to be encouraged, why should a student travel outside Buluk just to access basic banking services?
In 2015, I had to travel to Navrongo in order to pay my schools fees, which I believe many still do.
-A Blow to Local Businesses
Small business owners, traders, and farmers face similar challenges.
Without a national bank in Buluk:
1. Businesses struggle to access financial products and services.
2. Entrepreneurs find it harder to secure loans and credit facilities.
3. Traders travel long distances to deposit money, increasing costs and security risks.
4. Investment opportunities become less attractive.
When financial institutions are absent, economic growth slows down.
-A Challenge for Farmers
Buluk is an agricultural area. Farmers receive payments, seek loans, and conduct financial transactions regularly.
The absence of a national bank means:
1. Delays in accessing financial services.
2. Increased transportation costs.
3. Reduced financial inclusion.
4. Difficulty accessing certain agricultural financing programs.
How can we talk about agricultural transformation while denying farmers convenient access to modern banking services?
-Government Services Are Becoming More Digital
Many government services today require banking transactions.
Whether it is:
1. School fees,
2. Business registrations,
3. Government payments,
4. Digital financial services,
the lack of a national bank creates barriers for ordinary citizens.
-Keeping Money Within Buluk
A national bank does more than provide banking services. It:
1. Creates jobs.
2. Attracts investment.
3. Encourages business growth.
4. Improves confidence in the local economy.
Every day, money that could circulate within Buluk is taken to other towns because critical financial services are unavailable locally.
Time for Leadership and Action.
This is not about politics. It is about development.
The people of Buluk deserve the same opportunities available elsewhere. A municipality and a district with two parliamentary constituencies, thousands of residents, schools, businesses, markets, and public institutions should not be struggling to access basic banking services in 2026.
The people of Buluk have waited long enough.
If we can advocate for roads, markets, schools, hospitals, and electricity, then surely we can also advocate for a national commercial bank that serves the needs of our people.
Development is not only about buildings and promises. It is also about ensuring that essential services are accessible to the people.
The question remains: Why does Buluk still not have a national bank, and what concrete steps are our leaders taking to change this?
In conclusion, we the people of Builsa North and South are advocating for a National Bank. You are a listening Father to all and we believe you will listen to our humble plea 🙏🙏🙏🙏.
