WHERE IS THE NATIONAL BANK FOR BULUK?

Dear President John Dramani Mahama, for decades, the people of Buluk have contributed to the development of Ghana through agriculture, trade, public service, education, and hard work. Yet one basic service that many districts and municipalities take for granted remains absent in our area: a national commercial bank.

Today, Buluk is represented in Parliament by two experienced MPs—Hon. James Agalga of Builsa North and Clement Apaakof Builsa South—who have collectively spent many years in Parliament and have held significant positions in government. Despite this, residents of Buluk still have to travel to Navrongo, Bolgatanga, and other towns to access many essential banking services. The bad nature of the Chuchuliga - Wiesi road does not facilitate easy travel.

The question is simple: Why does Buluk still not have a national bank?

-The Burden on Students

One of the biggest victims of this situation is our students.

Many schools, universities, and institutions require payments through banks. Students and parents often have to travel long distances simply to make deposits, verify transactions, or resolve banking issues. This means:
1. Spending money on transportation.
2. Losing valuable time.
3. Missing classes or work.
4. Facing unnecessary stress during admission and registration periods.

In an era where education is supposed to be encouraged, why should a student travel outside Buluk just to access basic banking services?
In 2015, I had to travel to Navrongo in order to pay my schools fees, which I believe many still do.

-A Blow to Local Businesses

Small business owners, traders, and farmers face similar challenges.

Without a national bank in Buluk:
1. Businesses struggle to access financial products and services.
2. Entrepreneurs find it harder to secure loans and credit facilities.
3. Traders travel long distances to deposit money, increasing costs and security risks.
4. Investment opportunities become less attractive.

When financial institutions are absent, economic growth slows down.

-A Challenge for Farmers

Buluk is an agricultural area. Farmers receive payments, seek loans, and conduct financial transactions regularly.

The absence of a national bank means:
1. Delays in accessing financial services.
2. Increased transportation costs.
3. Reduced financial inclusion.
4. Difficulty accessing certain agricultural financing programs.

How can we talk about agricultural transformation while denying farmers convenient access to modern banking services?

-Government Services Are Becoming More Digital

Many government services today require banking transactions.

Whether it is:
1. School fees,
2. Business registrations,
3. Government payments,
4. Digital financial services,

the lack of a national bank creates barriers for ordinary citizens.

-Keeping Money Within Buluk

A national bank does more than provide banking services. It:

1. Creates jobs.
2. Attracts investment.
3. Encourages business growth.
4. Improves confidence in the local economy.

Every day, money that could circulate within Buluk is taken to other towns because critical financial services are unavailable locally.

Time for Leadership and Action.
This is not about politics. It is about development.
The people of Buluk deserve the same opportunities available elsewhere. A municipality and a district with two parliamentary constituencies, thousands of residents, schools, businesses, markets, and public institutions should not be struggling to access basic banking services in 2026.

The people of Buluk have waited long enough.

If we can advocate for roads, markets, schools, hospitals, and electricity, then surely we can also advocate for a national commercial bank that serves the needs of our people.

Development is not only about buildings and promises. It is also about ensuring that essential services are accessible to the people.

The question remains: Why does Buluk still not have a national bank, and what concrete steps are our leaders taking to change this?

In conclusion, we the people of Builsa North and South are advocating for a National Bank. You are a listening Father to all and we believe you will listen to our humble plea 🙏🙏🙏🙏.

Builsa North Deserves Honest Answers

Hon. James Agalga has served as Member of Parliament for Builsa North in the Upper East Region of Ghana for many years(since 2013). As citizens and well wishers of Buluk, it is fair for us to ask what progress has been made and what challenges still remain.

While there have been interventions in areas such as education, water, and community support, many residents continue to raise concerns about the state of our roads, especially major routes that connect our communities, farms, and markets as well as healthcare delivery.

After years of representation, we must ask:
1. Why are many of our roads still in poor condition?

2. Why do communities continue to struggle with accessibility during the rainy season?

3. Why are farmers and individuals still facing high transportation costs because of bad roads?

4. Why do flooding issues caused by inadequate drainage and culverts persist in some areas?

5. Why are people still complaining about healthcare delivery?

6. Why are the youth still complaining about jobs in the constituency?

7. Why are some communities still sleeping in darkness with no electricity?

These are not attacks on any individual or the Honourable Member of Parliament. They are legitimate questions from citizens who want development.

The role of an MP is not only to make laws in Parliament but also to advocate strongly for the development needs of the constituency. The people of Builsa North deserve to know what has been achieved, what is currently being pursued, and what plans exist for the future.

Development is not about politics. It is about results.

What project or intervention by Hon. James Agalga has had the biggest impact on your community? And what do you think still needs urgent attention?

Are you satisfied with his performance over these years??

Has Buluk Been Forgotten?

Dear President John Dramani Mahama, for decades, the people of Buluk in the Upper East Region of Ghana have waited for the completion of the Chuchuliga–Fumbisi–Wiesi road for too long.
Governments have come and gone. Members of Parliament have been elected and replaced. Promises have been made, repeated, and renewed. Yet, this critical road continues to remain a symbol of neglect and unfulfilled commitments.

Since independence, generations of people in Buluk have endured poor road conditions that have slowed development, increased the cost of transportation, affected access to healthcare and education, and made it difficult for farmers and traders to fully benefit from their hard work.

This raises painful questions:
1. What have the people of Buluk done to deserve this level of neglect?

2. Have we not paid taxes like other citizens? Have our farmers not contributed to feeding this nation?

3. Have our traders, teachers, nurses, students, and workers not played their part in Ghana’s development?

4. Why, then, has such an important road been left unfinished for so long while other parts of the country continue to receive major infrastructure investments?

5. Why have successive governments failed to make this road a priority despite decades of appeals from traditional leaders, community members, and concerned citizens?

6. Why have MPs over the years not been able to secure the completion of this vital road project?

7. Why must the people constantly remind leaders about a road that should have been completed long ago?

8. Why does serious attention often appear only when elections are approaching?

The Chuchuliga-Sandema-Fumbisi-Wiesi road is more than a stretch of land; it is the route through which farmers transport produce, traders move goods, students travel to school, patients seek medical care, and communities connect to opportunities.

The people of Buluk are not asking for special treatment; they are asking for fairness. They are asking for the same level of attention and commitment that other communities receive.
They are asking for leaders to move beyond promises and deliver lasting results.

History will not judge leaders by the number of speeches they made or sod-cutting ceremonies they attended. History will judge them by whether they improved the lives of the people they were elected to serve.

The people of Buluk have waited long enough. The time has come for action, accountability, and a road that reflects the dignity and importance of the communities it serves.

Buluk deserves development. Buluk deserves better.

In conclusion, Mr. President, you are the only hope we have now. The contract was awarded in 2016 before you left office. You are back now, and the people of Buluk are hoping you will get it done for them this time.

The people of Builsa North and South Constituencies have always supported and voted for the NDC, the time is now 🙏🙏🙏🙏.

Flooding Situation in Sandema

One of the challenges that continues to affect Sandema is the persistent flooding that occurs almost every year after heavy rainfall. Many residents have observed that, the culvert at that section of the road is too small to handle large volumes of water during the rainy season. As a result, water overflows its natural path, floods homes and businesses, damages property, and disrupts economic activities.

This problem is closely linked to the poor state of our road network and inadequate drainage infrastructure.

When roads are properly engineered and constructed, drainage systems are designed alongside them to efficiently channel stormwater away from communities. Well-designed roads include adequately sized culverts, drains, and waterways that can accommodate heavy rainfall and reduce the risk of flooding.

Unfortunately, where roads remain poorly developed or incomplete, drainage systems are often inadequate, blocked, undersized, or entirely absent. This causes rainwater to accumulate and overflow into nearby communities, creating the flooding situation that residents of Sandema continue to experience year after year.

This is why the construction and proper completion of the Chuchuliga–Fumbisi–Wiesi road and other critical roads in the municipality should not be viewed only as transportation projects. They are also important flood mitigation and public safety projects.

The recurring flooding in Sandema is not just a natural disaster; it is also an infrastructure challenge that can be significantly reduced through proper road construction, larger and better-designed culverts, and effective drainage systems.

The people of Sandema deserve roads that not only connect communities but also protect lives, property, and livelihoods.

Feel sorry for all those who lost their homes and properties.

The ironic part is that the MP for Builsa North Constituency, as well as the DCE of Builsa North Municipal Assembly, will go to affected persons with minimal assistance just to gain public attention, instead of working together to tackle the issue.

The two MPs (Hon. James Agalga and Hon. Clement Apaak), as well as past MPs, have all failed Buluk. Shame on you all for putting people's lives at risk while prioritizing yourselves and party loyalists. Shame on all of you……
