On August 28, 2025, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia—former Vice President of Ghana and two-term running mate—submitted his nomination to contest as the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election. Addressing party members, he positioned himself as the “most prepared candidate,” citing his extensive experience and track record.

Dr. Bawumia shared his expansive vision for Ghana’s future:

- Introduce a flat tax system for individuals, corporations, and imports to encourage growth.

- Implement measures to reduce the cost of living and support vulnerable communities.

- Launch a constituency-based development and budgeting framework to ensure local benefits.

- Build a modern, inclusive digital economy that serves all citizens—not just the elite—by improving access to credit.

- Boost domestic production and job creation by channeling 3% of public sector expenditure directly into the private sector, with a focus on local procurement.

He concluded by calling for a united and disciplined NPP:

“Join me on this journey to rebuild our party and reposition this great tradition to deliver for Ghanaians from 2028.”
