HASAG VISITS CONTROLLER AND ACCOUNTANT GENERAL

The National Executive Committee (NEC) wishes to inform all members that a delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Controller and Accountant General to deliberate on key professional and welfare concerns affecting Health Accountants.

The discussions focused on the following issues:

1. Recognition of Health Accountants
The need for the formal recognition and alignment of all Health Accountants under the Controller and Accountant General’s Department structure.

2. Direction under the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act
Clarification and guidance on the appropriate placement, roles, and regulatory direction of Health Accountants within the framework of the PFM Act.

3. Uniform Pay Structure
The importance of establishing a standardized and equitable pay structure for all Health Accountants across the sector.

In his response, the Controller and Accountant General provided clear direction to the National Executive Committee on the necessary steps required to secure the recognition of Health Accountants under the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. He noted that the process will not be easy, particularly due to administrative and structural considerations involved but He expressed his readiness to bring us onboard.

The NEC acknowledged and accepted his guidance and has committed to act accordingly by engaging the appropriate stakeholders to advance the process.

The Committee will continue to keep members informed on subsequent developments.

Thank you.

ASHANTI REGION HOLDS 2025 ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate has successfully commenced its 2025 Annual Performance Review, which took place on 17th March 2026 at the Lancaster Hotel in Kumasi.

The Region recorded an impressive holistic assessment score of 3.83, reflecting steady progress in healthcare delivery and performance across key indicators, despite a slight decline compared to the 2024 performance.

Key discussions during the session focused on critical public health concerns, particularly maternal and perinatal mortality, with stakeholders emphasizing the need for strengthened interventions and improved outcomes across the Region.

The event also witnessed the official launch of two major initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare service delivery:

KOICA NoP Project on Maternal and Child Health, and

Harmonized Health Facility/Quality of Care Report

These initiatives are expected to significantly improve maternal and child health outcomes and standardize the quality of care across health facilities in the Region.

The review programme was chaired by Nana Boakye Yam II, who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Their involvement underscored the importance of the exercise and the collective commitment to advancing healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to the media, the Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Fred Adomako-Boateng, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Director-General, the Asantehene, Nananom of the Ashanti Kingdom, the Regional Minister, Health Directors, Medical Superintendents, health professionals, development partners, and media partners for their collaborative efforts in making this year’s review a success.

He acknowledged the challenges that contributed to the slight decline in the Region’s performance score and assured stakeholders of management’s commitment to implementing effective measures to address them. He further highlighted ongoing strategic interventions, including the formation of dedicated teams to intensify efforts in reducing maternal and perinatal mortality within the Region and beyond.

Dr. Adomako-Boateng concluded by thanking the Chairman, dignitaries, invited guests, and all participants for their continuous support and commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

The Annual Performance Review remains a vital platform for assessing progress, identifying gaps, and strengthening strategies to enhance health service delivery in the Ashanti Region.

DDF and Regional HASAG Patron Engages Retired Accounting Staff in Strategic Meeting

The Deputy Director of Finance for the Ashanti Region and Regional Patron of HASAG, Mr. Isaac Appiah Duodu, has held a strategic engagement with retired accounting staff of the Ghana Health Service. The meeting took place on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, at the Metro Health Directorate conference Hall in Kumasi.
In an exclusive interview, the Regional Financial Secretary, Mr. Adams Ganiwu, explained that the purpose of this engagement was to strengthen the bond between current HASAG members and retirees. He noted that involving retired staff will help foster mentorship, knowledge transfer, and professional guidance for upcoming accountants within the service.
During the engagement, the Patron encouraged retirees to explore productive ventures such as the supply of goods and services, opening retail businesses, and other commercial activities to keep them active during retirement. He emphasized that, in many jurisdictions, retirement starts around age 67; therefore, the experience and expertise of these retirees remain invaluable.
Mr. Duodu further proposed the formation of a Retirees Association to create a structured platform for continuous engagement, social interaction, and collaborative support. He assured the group of his full commitment to making this initiative vibrant within the Ashanti Region, noting that the region could become the first in Ghana to formally establish such a body for retired accounting staff.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, their chairman Mr. Alhaji Bismark Dauda expressed deep appreciation to the DDF for the initiative. He revealed that the Regional HASAG President, Mr. Shamsudeen Mohammed, had already reached out regarding enhanced engagement between the mother association and retirees. He described the meeting as timely and an excellent opportunity to formally establish the Retirees Association, which he believes can be replicated across other regions.

Madam Cecelia, Mr. John Antwi Boasiako, Mr. Abdullah Zakaria, Madam Stella Osei Bonsu, Mr. Prosper, Alhaji Bismark Dauda, Hajia Ayishatu Abubakar, Mr. Isaac Appiah Duodu (DDF), Mr. Quayson, Madam Esther, Mr. Philip Fuseini, Mr. Adams Ganiwu (Regional Financial Secretary), and Mr. Emmanuel Magnus-George.
