The Carnage on Ghana Roads: ‘Na Who Cause Am’? Part VII

Part VI navigated the contributions of LED headlights, other lights and enforcement to the carnage on our roads. This part intends to peruse the contributions of driver fatigue, speed limits, load security and State responsibility to the carnage on our roads. The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) University of Cape Coast (UCC) Branch lost a member and his Teaching Assistant (TA) through a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) on Tuesday, 28th April 2026 in Cape Coast. The Carnage on Ghana Roads: ‘Na Who Cause Am’? Part VI

Part V considered the contributions of speed ramps, motorways, and warning signs to the carnage on our roads. Part VI will take a microscopic view of the contributions of vehicle maintenance, LED headlights, other vehicle lights, and enforcement to the mayhem on our roads. There is a general lack of culture of maintenance in developing economies like Ghana, as such, it is not surprising that many motorists in Ghana don't see the need to keep their vehicles in shipshape. To compound the woes of motorists who are ready and willing to keep their vehicles in shipshape, there stands in their way, the daunting task of getting mechanics with the requisite skills, knowledge and equipment to undertake the repairs....

Part IV examined the roles of tyres, roads and wide loads to the carnage on Ghana roads. This part aims to consider the contributions of speed ramps, motorways, and warning signs to the carnage on our roads. Most of the 'death traps' on our roads, mistakenly referred to as speed ramps are nothing other than 'instruments of road user killers'. A majority of these so-called speed ramps have no warning signs at all.
