Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by the Accra High Court after being found guilty in the Samreboi illegal mining case.

The court found him guilty of illegally assigning mineral rights without the required ministerial approval and facilitating unlicensed mining operations on the Akonta Mining concession at Samreboi in the Western Region.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a financial penalty, with related sanctions also affecting Akonta Mining Limited.

The ruling marks one of the most significant convictions in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining (“galamsey”) and enforce accountability within the mining sector.

Twins Diaries DESERVED APPRECIATION, NOT ACCUSATIONS

I have read the full explanation from Twins Diaries, and I must say this whole situation is really painful and disappointing.

These are people who used their platform to bring attention to the Konongo Twins when they needed help. Through the support of their followers and donors, they renovated the twins’ room, donated essential items, presented GHS 40,000 to the family, and continued travelling long distances just to deliver additional gifts and donations.

Sometimes we only see the pictures and videos on social media, but we don’t see the time, energy, transportation costs, sleepless nights, and sacrifices people make behind the scenes to help others.

After all this, hearing that Twins Diaries were accused of making money from posting the twins is really sad.

If there was any concern about money, the family could have simply asked questions and requested clarification. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for transparency.

But repeatedly accusing people of using the children to make money without providing evidence is unfair.

What makes the situation even more painful is that, according to Twins Diaries, they tried several times to explain themselves and resolve the misunderstanding, but the accusations continued.

How do you accept help from people, benefit from the support they mobilized, receive donations from their followers, and then turn around and accuse those same people of exploiting you?

That is difficult to understand.

And if it is true that someone close to the family later started posting the twins on TikTok and displaying a Mobile Money number to receive donations, then the whole situation becomes even more concerning.

You cannot accuse someone of making money from posting the twins and then turn around and use the same children’s pictures and videos to solicit money from the public.

At some point, people have to learn to appreciate those who genuinely come forward to help them.

Nobody is saying beneficiaries should worship those who help them or remain silent when something is wrong. But gratitude, respect, and fairness still matter.

I completely understand why Twins Diaries decided to stop posting the Konongo Twins.

If people believe you are making money from their children, the best thing is to step away and allow them to handle their own affairs.

At least Twins Diaries can walk away knowing they helped when help was needed.

They used their platform.

They mobilized people.

They travelled long distances.

They delivered donations.

They renovated the twins’ room.

And GHS 40,000 was presented to the family through the generosity of donors.

Nobody can erase that impact.

My only hope is that this unfortunate experience does not discourage Twins Diaries from helping other vulnerable children and families who genuinely need their support.

There are many people out there praying for someone to hear their story and give them an opportunity.

Keep doing the good work, Twins Diaries.

Sometimes the people you help may misunderstand you, disappoint you, or even accuse you, but that should never stop you from making a difference in the lives of others.

Kindness should be appreciated, not rewarded with accusations.

I stand with Twins Dairies❤️

Ghana Water Co. Ltd: The Company That Takes Its Customers As Adversaries

Ghana Water Co. Ltd (GWCL), Winneba, has for whatever reasons, virtually concluded that its customers are its enemies. This submission is based on some actions and inactions of GWCL, Winneba. For close to two (2) weeks now, even though almost the entire Winneba township is flooded due to the incessant rains, the taps are not flowing and GWCL Winneba can't be bothered to tell its customers the reason(s) why the taps are drier than desert conditions. In addition to the above, about two (2) years ago, GWCL Winneba dug up the road at the only traffic lights in Winneba, possibly to replace the water transmission lines, which is routine....

Reports circulating on social media claim that a Level 300 student at the University of Abuja allegedly poisoned her boyfriend after their relationship ended, and later took her own life. Some of the claims being shared online, including those about past pregnancies, have not been independently verified.

If the reports are true, it’s a heartbreaking reminder that unresolved emotional pain, anger, and relationship conflicts can have devastating consequences. No breakup is worth anyone losing their life.

Take relationships seriously, respect boundaries, and seek help when emotions become overwhelming.

My take: Rejection can be difficult, but violence is never the answer. Stay safe, choose peace, and don’t ignore warning signs in unhealthy relationships.

The NPP’s Flood Statement: Politics Over Solutions

The NPP’s statement on the June 29 floods prioritizes political criticism over national unity and practical solutions. While governments must be held accountable, flooding is a long-standing challenge caused by rapid urbanization, poor drainage, illegal construction on waterways, climate change, and indiscriminate waste disposal—issues that have persisted under successive administrations, including the NPP’s.

The call for “shared responsibility” is not an attempt to evade accountability but a recognition that both government and citizens have roles to play in preventing floods. Rather than assigning blame during a national disaster, the focus should be on supporting affected communities, improving drainage infrastructure, enforcing environmental laws, strengthening disaster preparedness, and implementing long-term flood mitigation measures.

Ghanaians deserve constructive leadership that offers practical solutions instead of partisan rhetoric. National tragedies should unite the country behind effective action, not become opportunities for political point-scoring.

Heavy rainfall has once again exposed the urgent need for responsible urban planning and environmental protection. With approximately 140mm of rain recorded in Accra today—one of the highest levels in recent years—we must all play our part in keeping waterways free from obstruction.

As President John Dramani Mahama emphasized, while extreme weather is beyond our control, preventing avoidable flooding requires collective responsibility. Let’s protect lives, property, and our communities.
