Alleged Mobile Money Robbery Foiled in Bunkpurugu, One Suspect Arrested

A swift community response and security intervention on Tuesday evening led to the arrest of one suspect in an alleged mobile money robbery near Kpentoug Junction in Bunkpurugu, North East Region.

The incident, which occurred between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., involved two masked men who reportedly attacked a female mobile money agent. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Lom TV News on condition of anonymity, the victim a resident of Jilig No. 2 in the Jilig Electoral Area had closed from work and was on her way home when the assailants blocked her path.

The suspects allegedly attempted to sn**ch her bag containing cash, physically assaulting her in the process. Despite being beaten, the woman held on tightly to the bag. Her resistance, combined with the timely intervention of a tricycle (Motor King) driver who flashed his lights and rushed towards the scene, forced the attackers to flee.

The Motor King driver reportedly pursued the suspects but faced threats from them. He quickly called for reinforcement, leading to the involvement of community members, police, and military personnel.

The chase extended from Kpentoug Junction to Nyamwai, where residents managed to intercept and apprehend one suspect. The second suspect is believed to have escaped.

Security forces have since taken the arrested individual into custody for further investigation, while a manhunt is underway for the fugitive.
