The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Ashanti Regional Secretariat, has demanded the immediate release on bail of a teacher and hostel caretaker at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School who was arrested following an altercation with a final-year student.

In a press release dated June 9, 2026, GNAT expressed concern over the handling of the case and the continued detention of the teacher by the Atwima Mponua District Police Command.

The association called on the Ghana Police Service to grant bail to the teacher without delay and urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) and school authorities to ensure that due process is followed in addressing the matter.

GNAT warned that if the teacher is not granted bail by tomorrow, it will direct teachers at Nyinahin Catholic SHS and across the Atwima Mponua District to boycott the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The association further announced plans for teachers to wear red armbands and embark on a demonstration to protest what it described as the unfair treatment of their colleague.

According to the statement signed by Ashanti Regional Secretary D.K. Atakora, GNAT remains committed to safeguarding the welfare and rights of teachers while promoting discipline within schools.

The association called on the relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent the situation from escalating further.
