New Community Drip Irrigation System Launched in Collaboration with Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah and DCE to Boost Farming in Dormaa West
Awiakrom, Dormaa West | Thursday, August 6, 2026 – Farmers in Awiakrom in the Dormaa West District have received a major boost to agricultural production following the launch of a new community drip irrigation system aimed at promoting year-round farming.
The project was initiated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German Development Cooperation, in collaboration with CARD Ghana for Migration Management. It was implemented with the support of the Dormaa West District Assembly, led by District Chief Executive Hon. Stephen Awuni Azorba, and the Member of Parliament for Dormaa West, Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah.
Under the project, an extensive network of irrigation pipes has been installed across the farmland, enabling farmers to cultivate crops during both the rainy and dry seasons. The initiative is expected to increase agricultural productivity, strengthen food security, and improve the livelihoods of farming households in the district.
Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director of CARD Ghana, Mr. Alhassan Hudu, said the project would significantly improve the socio-economic well-being of beneficiaries by increasing farm productivity and contributing to poverty reduction.
The beneficiary farmers expressed their heartfelt appreciation to GIZ, CARD Ghana, the Dormaa West District Assembly, Hon. Stephen Awuni Azorba, and Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah for their commitment to supporting agriculture in the district.
According to the farmers, access to a reliable irrigation system will enable them to farm throughout the year, increase crop production, and generate higher incomes for their families.
