Jesus Was God
September 29
Key Verse: John 1:1, 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.'
Read: LUKE 1:1-4; JOHN 1:1-18
Jesus was not just a man sent from God, He was God.
This is the most important statement of the New Testament. On this truth hangs all other truths.
If Jesus was only a man, then regardless of how good He was, His life
could only provide a substitute for one other man. But since He was God, His life was worth more than every human life since creation. Indeed it was worth more than the sum total of the universe that He created.
Any compromise on this point will negate the work of Christ in our lives. Jesus was God manifest in the flesh (1 Tim. 3:16)! Yet this Almighty God came to dwell in a human body. He humbled Himself and took the form of a servant (Phil. 2:7).
Christ's humanity truly made Him one of us. He suffered the same temptations and pressures that we suffer (Heb. 4:15). It was His divinity, however, that gave Him the power to save us to the max (Heb. 7:25). We must never let His humanity blind us to the fact that Almighty God Himself became our friend (Jn. 15:13-15). And we must never let His divinity blind us to the fact that He knows exactly how we feel and cares for us.
Let the Holy Spirit give you a true revelation of the deity and humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ throughout this new year.

GOING DEEPER- THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR
• Day 271 - 2 John 1; Ezra 5-6; Psalm 93
WEEKLY SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION
Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? Luke 9:23, 25 NIV
PRAYER-STANDING IN THE PLACE OF PRAYER
Matthew 28:18-20-Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 9:37-38 -Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Matthew 24:14 - And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
In response to the three Scriptures listed above, we are encouraging all the recipients of this devotional to be praying regularly for peoples who have not yet been reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ (Unreached People Groups-UPGs) to be reached with the gospel. This is one way we can speed up the soon return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
JOSHUA PROJECT
Pray for the Bisaya in Malaysia
Bisaya in Malaysia
bee-SAH-yah
Have you heard of the "middle people," the Bisaya of Western Saba and Brunei Bay, Malaysia? They live along the "middle" stretches of the Limbang River, hence they are known as "people of the middle" or "people of the river," where they live in stilt long houses on the river front where they fish. They also farm inland. Their houses are divided into apartments where extended families live. This indigenous people group is overwhelmingly Muslim, but they mix orthodox Islamic beliefs with animistic and shamanistic practices.
Ministry Obstacles
Obstacles to ministry include a lack of Scripture in their language, lack of Spirit-empowered witness and evangelism, and a lack of intercessory prayer for them.
Outreach Ideas
Outreach is possible through Scripture portions and gospel messages in their language. There are other indigenous peoples with a gospel witness who can reach out to them if motivated by the Holy Spirit. Medical clinics are replacing shamans. Pray that the churches on Sarawak would pray for their kinsmen in Western Saba and Brunei Bay and seek to evangelize them as the Spirit leads. Pray that Christian doctors and clinics would be established among the Bisayas of Malaysia.
Scripture Focus
"But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him." John 4:23
Scripture Prayer
Pray that this people group soon begins to worship the Father in spirit and in truth.
Prayer Focus
Pray that the Middle People would become open to the gospel and Christian witness. Pray for a mighty movement to Christ among them this decade.
