Chapter One: The First Look

I wasn’t looking for trouble—at least, not the kind that wore heels and silk blouses, walking into a classroom like the air itself moved for her.
Dr. Evelyn Hart was a guest lecturer from another university. Her first words weren’t in the syllabus.
They were in her eyes.

She was probably in her early thirties. Confident. Sharp. And devastatingly unaware of how every guy in the room sat up straighter the moment she walked in.

But it was me she kept looking at.

I told myself I was imagining it.

That lasted until she called on me in class, and her lips curled slightly when I answered. Like she knew I’d been paying attention to her mouth more than the question.
