IGP DECORATES POLICE OFFICER PROMOTED FOR SAVING LIVES AT ABOSO

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, today, 31st August 2026, invited Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters to the National Police Headquarters in Accra, where he decorated him with his new rank of Chief Inspector.

Inspector Atubra was promoted in recognition of his bravery and exceptional efforts in saving lives and protecting property during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region on 26th August 2026.

The IGP commended him for his courage, quick response and dedication to duty, noting that his actions exemplify the values of professionalism and service expected of Police officers.

IGP PROMOTES POLICE OFFICER FOR SAVING LIVES DURING ABOSO FIRE OUTBREAK

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters to the rank of Chief Inspector for his role in saving lives during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.

The fire outbreak occurred on 26th August 2026 where some shops at the Aboso Main Lorry Station were engulfed in flames resulting in damage to properties.

Inspector Atubra, who was the first Police officer to arrive at the scene, immediately took action to assist people trapped in the affected area and helped to evacuate the victims to safety.

His actions were highly commended by people who witnessed the incident, leading to a recommendation for his promotion in recognition of his courage, quick response and efforts to save life and property.

The promotion underscores the Police Administration’s commitment to recognising and rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional courage, dedication and commitment to duty.

Allegations of Extortion Against the Minority Leader of Parliament

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has taken note of public allegations of extortion and related conduct made by the Chief Executive of Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, against the Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The OSP also acknowledges a joint petition submitted by two persons, as well as two separate petitions submitted by other persons, in relation to the allegations.

Given the nature of the allegations, the OSP will assess the case and determine whether it falls within its statutory mandate and whether further investigative action is warranted.

POLICE ARREST FIVE SUSPECTS OVER ROBBERY AND MURDER OF GOLD BUYER AT AGONA NKWANTA

The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five (5) suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.

On 20th August 2026 at about 8:00 p.m., some armed men attacked a gold buying shop and shot the owner in the chest. He was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Preliminary investigations and CCTV footage identified suspect Emmanuel Amponsah alias “Vandam”, 29, as the alleged leader of the gang.

On 21st August 2026, suspect Amponsah was arrested at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges. He was subsequently taken ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Further investigations led to the arrest of suspects Christopher Seyiri alias “Cross and Die”, 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom alias “Wale”, 30, within the Agona Nkwanta area. Another suspect, Isaac Quayeson alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. A search of his residence led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.

During investigations, suspect Quayeson identified suspect Amponsah as the person who shot and killed the deceased and also identified suspect Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage.

The suspects are assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices connected to the robbery and murder.
