Former Ghanaian professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command. His arrest is over an alleged death threat directed at the National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

According to police, the boxer allegedly threatened the NSA boss in a viral video following disagreements over issues relating to Ghana boxing. The video caught the attention of the police, leading to his arrest for questioning.

Ayitey Powers, known for his comic style and famous bouts with Bukom Banku, is currently in police custody assisting investigations. The police say further action will be taken after investigations.

Controversial media personality Afia Schwarzenegger has added fire to the theft saga of 2023 GMB contestant Ohemaa. Afia claims Ohemaa is not new to such cases and says she has spent 6 months in prison before for theft.

In a video, Afia told Ghanaians to go and ask at Kaneshie Police Station for confirmation. She alleged that the Old Tafo market incident is not her first time and that the beauty queen has a history with the police.

Ohemaa, who represented Bono East in GMB 2023, was recently accused of stealing lace and dresses in Kumasi. She has denied stealing and said it was a mix-up with her driver. She is yet to respond to Afia Schwar's prison claims.

Canada has announced plans to admit up to 230,000 temporary foreign workers in 2026. This will be through two main programs - 60,000 through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and 170,000 through the International Mobility Program (IMP).

The government has also introduced new flexible rules from August 18, 2026. Employers with small work locations can now hire 1 low-wage foreign worker per site with less than 10 staff, and 2 workers in sectors like health care, construction and food production. This gives Ghanaians and other foreign workers more chances.

The opportunity is open to qualified workers including tradespeople, health workers and food sector workers. Interested Ghanaians are advised to apply only through official Canada Immigration channels and avoid scammers promising guaranteed visas.

2023 Ghana's Most Beautiful contestant Ohemaa Sappama Angela, who represented Bono East, is trending for the wrong reasons. She was allegedly caught stealing Abaya lace and a ladies dress at a shop in Old Tafo, Kumasi, in a video that went viral after blogger Rande posted it on August 16.

Amid the theft drama, an old video of Ohemaa has resurfaced online. In the clip, she is seen speaking openly about her involvement and support for LGBTQ, which has sparked fresh debate among Ghanaians on social media.

Ghanaians are divided, with many expressing shock that a former national pageant queen could be linked to both controversies. Ohemaa herself is yet to officially respond to either the theft allegation or the resurfaced LGBTQ video.

Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has secured new US attorneys ahead of his court appearance on August 24. He has hired Ohio-based veteran criminal defence lawyer Henry Hilow, who has over 40 years experience in fraud and white-collar cases, to lead his defence.

Abu Trica pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy after his extradition to the US on July 9. US prosecutors allege he was part of a syndicate that used AI to create fake identities to defraud elderly Americans of over $8 million in romance scams since 2023.

A US federal judge has declared the case complex, giving his lawyers more time to review voluminous evidence. A pre-trial conference is now set for August 25, with trial scheduled for September 8 if no plea deal is reached. He faces up to 20 years if convicted. 3783

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says Ghana now spends less than 20% of its total revenue on debt servicing, a sharp drop from about 55% at its peak. He disclosed this after Ghana signed a €163 million debt restructuring deal with Belgium on Friday, August 21.

According to Dr Forson, when Ghana was spending 55% of revenue on debt, there was little left for public services. "Less schools, less hospitals, and less social care," he said, noting the situation was unsustainable.

He said the reduction now gives government more fiscal space to invest in healthcare, education, roads and other infrastructure, and that government will enshrine fiscal rules in law to prevent a return to unsustainable debt.
