Wa Circuit Court Sentences 31-Year-Old Man to Seven Years for Defiling 5-Year-Old Girl
Wa, Upper West Region – The Wa Circuit Court has sentenced Issahaku Waris, a 31-year-old resident of Wa Zongo, to seven years’ imprisonment for the defilement of a five-year-old girl.
According to a statement from the Upper West Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Officers from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) swiftly intervened, leading to the suspect’s arrest two days later.
The police noted that the conviction was the result of a thorough and diligent investigation, bolstered by the full cooperation of the victim’s family and community members.
In a one-page press release signed by the Deputy Regional Commander, ACP Peter Kamasa, the Police Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children. The Command also encouraged the public to report all forms of abuse promptly, emphasizing that silence only enables perpetrators.
ACP Kamasa further stressed the importance of community involvement in the fight against child abuse. “This sentence is not only a step towards justice for the victim and her family, but also a clear warning to others who may consider harming innocent children,” he said.
The case, which drew concern from residents of the Wa Zongo community and beyond, has sparked renewed calls for vigilance and greater protection of children across the region.
