*W/R “Security Opened Fire”: Suspected Galamsey Miner Killed Near Adamus Mine*
Shooting occurred Saturday near Adamus concession at Salma in Nzema East Municipal. NAIMOS report denies team involvement, cites unidentified men on motorbikes. Police investigations ongoing.
_Salma, Nzema East Municipal –_ A suspected illegal miner was shot dead on Saturday, 14 June 2026, near the Adamus Mining Concession at Salma, sparking tension between community members and security personnel.
Initial accounts from miners in the area alleged that NAIMOS military personnel, who were patrolling at the time, were responsible for the shooting. The incident occurred about one kilometre from where a NAIMOS taskforce was conducting reconnaissance.
According to the NAIMOS report, a team of 10 personnel had stopped along the Adamus Mining Concession Road between 1500hrs and 1800hrs on Saturday for a “quick reconnaissance” after an earlier operation at the AU Fields mining site.
The report stated that on sighting the team, several miners raised an alarm and fled. Personnel were able to persuade some to stop and explained the team was not conducting an operation but a reconnaissance mission.
During the engagement with miners, the NAIMOS report noted that information emerged from motor riders alleging that unidentified individuals on two motorbikes, dressed in black tops and military pattern trousers, had shot and killed a person about one kilometre away from the team’s location.
The report added that while some miners claimed the suspects were Adamus security guards in olive-green attire, others accused NAIMOS personnel. The NAIMOS report clarified that if its team had fired, the victim would likely have been among those fleeing their immediate vicinity, not along the roadway in a different direction from their movement.
To verify claims that the alleged shooters had reported to police, personnel from the team went to the Salman Police Station. According to the NAIMOS report, officers on duty confirmed no such persons had reported there and that no NAIMOS personnel had visited the station earlier.
A crowd later gathered at the station and erected roadblocks as tension rose. The Ellembele Divisional Police Commander intervened and supervised the conveyance of the body to the mortuary. Community chiefs and opinion leaders also helped calm the crowd before the team was allowed to leave.
Police recorded statements from the NAIMOS team. All parties have agreed to meet at the police station on Monday, 15 June 2026, at 0900hrs to continue investigations.
Adamus Resources Limited has not yet issued an official statement. Police are urging witnesses to come forward.
According to the NAIMOS report, calm has since been restored in the area.
