Historic Trip to the Caribbean: A Milestone Achieved with Afreximbank
I was honored to be part of the groundbreaking ET flight (ET-8394) that made history by connecting Africa to the Caribbean for the first time. Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's largest airline operator, successfully linked Global Africa. The inaugural flight landed at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) in Nassau, Bahamas, and was welcomed with a water salute at Jet Aviation's VIP section.
The flight from Lagos to Nassau took 10 hours and 30 minutes, while the return flight took 10 hours, marking one of the shortest distances connecting Global Africa. We arrived in Nassau for the Afrexim Bank meetings and the 3rd Afri-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum, a historic event organized by Afreximbank for the first time in the western hemisphere.
We were treated with the highest level of respect, sending a strong signal that Africa must unite and connect with the African diaspora and the Caribbean for the greater good of all Africans globally.
As the President of African Imports and Exports Bank (Afreximbank) Prof. Oramah Benedict aptly stated, "In a world where might is right, it's essential for the weak to unite." This unity is embodied in the concept of Global Africa, which encompasses Africa, the diaspora, and the Caribbean.
The legendary Bob Marley's call for African unity resonates deeply, especially as this conference was held near his hometown of Jamaica. His iconic song echoes the sentiment: "Africa unite... because we're moving right out of Babylon, and we're grooving to our Father's land." This historic trip marks a significant step towards realizing that vision.
