June 19, 2025

The Minister of Education, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the Government’s decision to review the decentralized Senior High School (SHS) food supply programme.

Addressing the Presidential Press Corps at the Presidency in Accra, Mr Iddrisu expressed concern about the quantities and quality of food being served in the Senior High Schools under the decentralized SHS food supply policy. Government to review decentralised SHS food supply

Mr Iddrisu said the implementation of the decentralized SHS food supply programme was a pledge in the ruling National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) manifesto to get the programme back to headmasters, bursars and others to do it in order to keep the local economy going.

The Minister stated that, however it appears that at many levels, the quantities and quality of the food was just not good enough.

60 NPP MPs back Bawumia’s flagbearer bid voluntarily – Ampratwum-Sarpong

Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, leader of the group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid, says all 60 MPs backing the former Vice President have done so of their own accord.

Speaking to Citi News after a meeting with Dr. Bawumia, Ampratwum-Sarpong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mampong, said that efforts are ongoing to persuade other MPs who have yet to publicly declare their support.

“The processes are about to commence to select our leadership in the party, and one of the key ones is the flagbearership, and that is where the focus is. Our MPs — the number being 88 — are the political front of the party when we are in opposition. So that responsibility has just come upon us, and we have to take the mantle and do what is right.”

He stressed that the MPs were not coerced into supporting Dr. Bawumia, noting that each member made their decision independently.

R Kelly rushed to hospital after prison ‘overdose’ plot, his lawyers say

R Kelly was hospitalised after prison officials gave him an overdose of medication, his lawyers have claimed – as part of what they say is an ongoing assassination plot.

Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, is currently serving time at the Federal Correctional Institute in Butner, North Carolina, after being convicted of s*x trafficking and racketeering in 2021.

A year later, he was found guilty on three charges of producing child s*xual abuse images and three charges of enticement of minors for s*x.

The 58-year-old was taken to the hospital on Friday after prison staff “administered an overdose of his medication”, according to a court document filed by his lawyer.

The document, filed on Tuesday, reads: “Mr. Kelly’s life is in danger, and that danger is coming from Bureau of Prisons officials and their actions.

“Mr. Kelly needs this Court’s intervention. His life actually depends on it.”

Nicole Blank Becker, one of Kelly’s lawyers, said he is in solitary confinement and that she spoke with him on Monday.

“What is happening right now with him is insane,” she said. “I hope that this really results in someone, somewhere, somehow getting hold of him today and getting him back in the hospital.”

A spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons said in a statement that “for privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, including medical and health-related issues”.

“Additionally, the Bureau of Prisons does not comment on pending litigation or matters that are the subject of legal proceedings,” they added.

The allegation is the latest in a line of similar claims from the singer’s legal team, who last week filed a motion accusing the Bureau of Prisons of instructing another inmate to kill Kelly.
