Notepad gets a spell-check feature

Four decades later, Notepad gets a spell-check feature. Microsoft’s Notepad can now spellcheck and autocorrect text, a major innovation on a product that was released when Ronald Reagan was in his third year as president.

Windows 11 users can now use Notepad without too much dread about their grammar after Microsoft started rolling out spellcheck and autocorrect for Notepad. We checked, and at least on our devices, Notepad has the functionality enabled.

Frequent Microsoft product users will find the features familiar, as they hardly differ from the ones in Microsoft Word: a red underline to indicate mistakes and a right-click to fix them. The same goes for autocorrect, with the software fixing common mistakes as you type.

Samsung Electronics workers strike as union voice grows in South Korea:

Samsung Electronics,
workers began a three-day strike for better pay on Monday, with their union pointing to further action should South Korea's biggest conglomerate continue to fall short of its demands.
The National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), whose roughly 30,000 members make up almost a quarter of the firm's South Korean workforce, also wants an extra day of annual leave for unionized workers and changes to the employee bonus system.

Government orders ATC to reconnect Telecel:

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD) and the National Communications Authority (NCA) has instructed leading tower company, ATC Ghana to reconnect all Telecel Ghana sites and retract their earlier publication alleging that Telecel had been disconnected for non-payment of bills.

This was at a meeting between the Ministry, NCA and the two parties – ATC and Telecel on Friday. July 5, 2024, following allegations by ATC that Telecel had failed to pay their power and fuel bills and for that matter their equipment on the tower co-location sites had been disconnected.

Minutes after ATC issued their statement, Telecel Ghana also issued a rebuttal, describing ATC’s allegations as “utterly false.”

The matter has therefore been referred to the NCA for arbitration, ahead ATC has been ordered to restore service to Telecel immediately, and retract their earlier publication through the same media they made the allegations.

Taiwan's central bank said on Sunday that it has no timetable for launching a digital currency, warning the process will be "huge and complex", but it will hold public hearings on the matter next year to spread knowledge.
Taiwan's central bank has been working on a pilot for a government-run digital currency, to allow people to use a digital wallet and make payments without using a debit or credit card.

San Antonio security company tests surveillance robots from Singapore at SAMMinistries shelter.

Two robots from Singapore will begin securing the perimeter of SAMMinistries’ downtown shelter starting next week.

Since the nonprofit, which offers housing and services for people experiencing homelessness, opened the shelter at a downtown San Antonio Holiday Inn in December 2023, it has contracted with Texas Veteran Security to patrol the site.

Across three shifts, 27 guards monitor the perimeter of the former hotel, at 318 W. Cesár E. Chávez Blvd. on the west side of downtown, by foot and vehicle around the clock.
