At just 23, Richmond Amoah has already faced more struggles than most. Leaving his mother’s home in the Bono Region, he made his way to Accra in search of opportunity—only to find himself navigating the unforgiving streets of the capital. With no stable job and the weight of family expectations on his shoulders, he has turned to “Shadow Loading”—an informal and risky means of earning a living at Accra’s bus terminals.Richmond’s story reflects the harsh reality of youth unemployment in Ghana, where many young people are forced into precarious and informal work just to survive. His experience underscores the urgent need for policies that promote quality education (SDG 4) and decent work opportunities (SDG 8) to ensure that young people like Richmond have a real chance at a better future. It’s time to invest in skills development, job creation, and sustainable economic opportunities for the youth. No young person should have to risk their safety just to make a living. Please who has the contact info of Secretary-General of the United Nations?

ERADICATING POVERTY: A YOUTH PERSPECTIVE.

In my upcoming interview with a past student of the University of Cape Coast, he shared his thoughts on poverty eradication ahead of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

My interviewee, Mohammed, believes that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty, citing the lack of access to quality education as a major obstacle.

He highlighted the importance of empowering youth to drive change. "As young people, we must take ownership of our future and work together to create opportunities for all," he said. Concluded by emphasizing that eradicating poverty requires a sustained effort, saying, "October 17th should be more than just a day of awareness—it should be a catalyst for lasting change.

POVERTY ERADICATION: A CALL TO ACTION—UCC STUDENT SPEAKS OUT.

I had the opportunity to sit down with Mohammed Fuseini, an immediate past student from the University of Cape Coast, to discuss his thoughts on poverty eradication ahead of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17th.

When asked about the significance of this day, Mohammed emphasized that "poverty is a reality that affects many Ghanaians, and it's crucial we acknowledge the struggles and resilience of those living in poverty." He believes that IDEP serves as a reminder of the need for collective action to address poverty's root causes.

Mohammed highlighted the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. "As a student, I've seen firsthand how education can transform lives," he said. "However, many young people in Ghana lack access to quality education, perpetuating poverty." He advocated for increased investment in education infrastructure, scholarships, and vocational training programs to equip individuals with skills to secure better-paying jobs.

Join us on Thursday, October 17, as we have an intriguing conversation and mark the event. See ya!

*HAPPY MENTAL HEALTH DAY.*

This year's theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues in the workplace, considering that, 60% of the global population is employed and spends a significant amount of time at work. The World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) chose this theme through a global vote, emphasizing the need to prioritize mental health and well-being in the workplace.

Now, more than 2.4 million people in Ghana are estimated to be living with various mental health conditions, 98% of them still lacking access to medication and to qualified service providers. The inadequacy of treatment, together with the associated stigma surrounding such persons, is a major concern.

Happy Mental Health Day to you all, visit our website for more information and details on how you can deal with stress and join the movement.
