Fisheries Ministry Announces Approved Premix Fuel Prices, Warns Against Non-Compliance

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has announced the officially approved premix fuel prices for the current pricing window, with a strong warning that strict enforcement measures will be applied to ensure compliance across all Landing Beach Committees.

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, together with the National Premix Fuel Secretariat, said the directive is aimed at ensuring stability, transparency and fairness in the distribution of premix fuel to support artisanal fishing communities across the country.

Under the approved pricing structure, premix fuel will sell at 5 Ghana cedis 60 pesewas per litre, while a gallon will go for 25 cedis 20 pesewas. A yellow gallon containing seven gallons has been pegged at 176 cedis 40 pesewas.

The Ministry further announced that an 80-gallon blue drum will sell at 2,016 Ghana cedis, while the 70-gallon and 50-gallon drums will sell at 1,764 Ghana cedis and 1,260 Ghana cedis respectively.
Additionally, the approved Oil Marketing Company charge per drum has been fixed at 73 cedis and 6 pesewas.

The Ministry says monitoring teams will closely supervise compliance by Landing Beach Committees to prevent unauthorized price hikes and protect fisherfolk from exploitation.

Authorities are therefore urging all stakeholders in the fisheries sector to cooperate in maintaining transparency and sustaining Ghana’s blue economy.

MINISTER FOR FISHERIES EMBARKS NATIONWIDE TOUR OF INLAND COMMUNITIES

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, is set to begin a six-day nationwide working tour of inland fisheries communities starting Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

The tour is aimed at deepening stakeholder engagement, assessing key infrastructure, and gathering firsthand insights into challenges and opportunities within the inland fisheries subsector.

The Ministry says findings from the exercise will help shape policy direction and inform deliberations at the upcoming Inland Fisheries Conference.

The Minister will visit selected communities across the Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, Bono East, Savanna, and Ashanti Regions. Activities on the tour will include interactions with fishers, inspections of critical facilities, and a strategic planning session in Techiman.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture notes that the initiative underscores its commitment to inclusive, evidence-based policymaking driven by the lived experiences of fishing communities.

Stakeholders and members of the public are being encouraged to actively participate in the engagements.

GPGD Network Calls for Strict Observance of Homowo Noise Ban

The Graduates and Professionals of Ga-Dangme (GPGD) Network is urging residents and institutions across the Greater Accra Region to strictly observe the annual ban on drumming and noise-making ahead of the Homowo Festival.

In a statement issued in Accra today, the Network emphasized that the directive marks the beginning of a sacred period leading to the revered Homowo Festival—an important cultural celebration of the Ga-Dangme people.

The Festival, which means “hooting at hunger,” commemorates the resilience of the Ga-Dangme ancestors who overcame famine through unity and a successful harvest. The period is marked by reflection, renewal, and preparation for the planting season.

According to the GPGD Network, maintaining peace and quiet during this time is of deep cultural and spiritual significance, as excessive noise is believed to disrupt harmony and dishonour ancestral traditions.

The Network stressed that the ban is not merely symbolic but a vital practice that reinforces discipline, unity, and respect for tradition.

Young people, particularly within Ga-Dangme communities, have been advised to comply fully by avoiding noise-making, respecting traditional authorities, promoting peace, and educating others on the importance of the season.

The group also highlighted the broader national value of the Homowo Festival in promoting tourism, preserving cultural heritage, and strengthening social cohesion.

The GPGD Network is working in collaboration with the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and is calling on all stakeholders to support a peaceful and successful Homowo season.
