WENCHI: NANA ABREFA NKETIA VII SPORTS STADIUM UPGRADED

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi has developed and upgraded the Wenchi Sports Stadium popularly known as Nana Abrefa Nketia VII Sports Stadium in Wenchi.

The development and upgrading project works aimed to enhance facilities at the Stadium to a befitting status and serve as Home Ground for all interested Football Clubs to host all Premier League and other equally important high-grade matches for the 2025/2026 Football Season and beyond.

The move was in fulfillment of the MCE's vision and commitment to protect and preserve public property and government assets holding in trust for the good people of the Wenchi Municipality for the benefit of all. The initiative demonstrates the conviction of leadership towards sports development and harness football talents and guard its legacy of producing football greats such as International Footballers; Afena Gyan, Asamoah Gyan, etc.from Wenchi.

The development and upgrading project works executed by the Stadium Management Committee was part of the Committee's mandates to oversee the management and operationalization of the Stadium. The Project was part of immediate steps and efforts to ensure the usage and full operationalization of the Facility.

The following Facilities have been worked on; Players Tunnel upgraded and modified, Safe Zone reshaped, Dressing Rooms for Home and Away Teams have been refurbished, 2nd Spectator Stand renovated with additional metal fabrications, base wall and concrete steps constructed, Retaining Wall around the Perimeter Fence constructed, Additional 1,000 Capacity Spectator Stands under construction to accommodate 2,000 total Spectators, 200 Capacity Spectator Stand completed, VIP and VVIP Stand created and furnished with Standard and Executive Seats, Pitch works and Grassing works done, access routes and roads outside and inside the Stadium reshaped, 500 Standard Stadium Seats and more have been procured, make the Facility standard class and attractive to all. Additional Spectator Stands to accommodate 2,000 Spectators, efforts underway to provide more standard Stadium Seats and other auxiliary works to make the Facility standard class and attractive to all.

WENCHI: MCE INSPECTS ONGOING WORKS AT NANA ABREFA NKETIA VII SPORTS STADIUM

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi has paid working visit to the Nana Abrefa Nketia VII Sports Stadium in Wenchi.

The visit was an inspection tour to inspect and assess ongoing infrastructural development and upgrading works at the Stadium being undertaken by the Assembly.

The development and upgrading project works led by the Stadium Committee of the Assembly was in line with the MCE's grand development agenda to enhance facilities at the Stadium to a befitting status and increase Spectator Stand Capacity. Facilities developed and upgraded included; Players Tunnel upgrading and modification, Safe Zone ground reshaping, refurbishment of Dressing Rooms for Home and Away Teams, metal compactment of Spectator Stands, additional metal fabrications and base wall and concrete steps, Retaining Wall around the Perimeter Fence, Additional 1,000 Capacity Spectator Stands under construction to accommodate over 2,000 total Spectators, Pitch works and Grassing, reshaping of access routes and roads outside and inside the Stadium, provide standard Stadium seats and other auxiliary works to make the Facility standard class and attractive to all.

The move was in fulfillment of the MCE's vision and commitment to protect and preserve public property and government assets holding in trust for the good people of the Wenchi Municipality for the benefit of all. The initiative demonstrates the conviction of leadership to develop sports and harness football talents and guard its legacy of producing football greats such as International Footballers Afena Gyan, Asamoah Gyan, etc.from Wenchi. The development and upgrading works was to enable the usage and full operationalization of the Facility to its full capacity and potential.

The maintenance and continuous upgrading works on the Stadium were to protect and secure the Facility to be suitable as Home Ground for Clubs to host Premier League Matches and all other equally important category matches for the 2025/2026 Football Season and beyond. The renovation and upgrading works have become urgently necessary to meet the Ghana Football Association (GFA) standard requirements.

The Facility Management Committee for Nana Abrefa Nketia VII (aka Coach Nketia) Sports Stadium has hit the ground with the development, renovation and upgrading of Nana Abrefa Nketia VII Sports Stadium in Wenchi.

The development and upgrading project works was in line with the Committee's mandates to enhance the facilities at the Stadium to a befitting status and increase Spectator Stand Capacity. WENCHI: NANA ABREFA NKETIA VII SPORTS STADIUM MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE TAKES CHARGE

The Facility Management Committee for Nana Abrefa Nketia VII (aka Coach Nketia) Sports Stadium has moved into action and taken charge to execute its given mandates to renovate, upgrade and manage the Nana Abrefa Nketia VII Sports Stadium in Wenchi.

The Committee embarked on a tour on the Stadium to inspect and assess the deplorable state and condition of the Facility. It was observed during the Inspection Tour that the perimeter fence had fallen, roofing of the 2nd Spectator metal fabricated Stand was rift off by rain storm, amongst other dilapidated infrastructure and other lacking facilities. The assessment enabled the Committee to identify the substandard and deplorable nature of facilities at the Stadium and devise strategic measures to carry out maintenance and repair works. The assessment also informed the Committee on which artisans and professionals to engage for the development works.

The Committee has the responsibilities to oversee the operationalization, management, usage of the Stadium, protect and preserve the ownership right and the authority of the Assembly on the Stadium as a public property holding in trust for the good people of the Wenchi Municipality, protect the public interest against personal interest, carry out development and upgrading works of the Stadium, ensure proper maintenance and safety of the Stadium, embark on initiatives for Financial Mobilization and other forms of support, liaise between the Board of Governors and the supposed Clubs, prepare develop and implement strategic Work Plan, appropriate use and application of resources, funding and investment strategies, ensure accountability and transparency. The Committee shall submit proposals and make appropriate recommendations for consideration by the Board. The Management Committee shall facilitate and promote Stakeholder engagements and Development Partner collaborations for sustainable growth and development of the Stadium.

The Committee comprised Assistant Director Mr Bashir Abdul-Rahman (Chairman), Municipal Information Director Mr Stan - Nick Sofel Amuzu Kpodo of Information Services Department for Media & Public Affairs, Mr Mustapha Billal Watomba (Secretary), Youth Activist/Youth Leader, Mr Alhassan Abdul-Rahman (Accountant) all of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly. The rest are Chief Inspector Seth Yaw Agyei Kerssi of the Ghana Police Service, Ms Christiana Yabdoh of Ghana National Ambulance Service, Mr Asare Gyasi Mends of Ghana Education Service (GES), District Football Association Chairman (DFA) Mr Abdul Wahab Yaruba and the Local Security Services.

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi has taken bold steps to develop and upgrade the Nana Abrefa Nketia VII Sports Stadium in Wenchi.

The development and upgrading project works with support from the Member of Parliament (MP) Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna aims to enhance the facilities at the Stadium to a befitting status. The move was in fulfillment of the MCE's vision and commitment to protect and preserve public property and government assets holding in trust for the good people of the Wenchi Municipality for the benefit of all. The initiative demonstrates the conviction of leadership to develop sports and harness football talents and guard its legacy of producing football greats such as International Footballers Afena Gyan, Asamoah Gyan, etc.from Wenchi.

WENCHI: HEALTH DIRECTORATE BEGINS HPV VACCINATION EXERCISE FROM OCTOBER 7 2025

The Wenchi Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) will begin Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) Vaccination Exercise from Tuesday 7th to 11th October 2025 against Cervical Cancer.

Trained Healthcare workers will visit your Communities, Schools and other popular Centres and vantage points to administer HPV Vaccine to all girls aged 9-14 years from Tuesday 7th - 11th October 2025. The Vaccine will also be available in Public Health Facilities. It is safe and free of charge. All Parents and Guardians should mobilize and ensure that their children or wards are vaccinated.

The HPV Vaccination is a safe and effective way to prevent HPV infections and associated cancers, such as Cervical Cancer, by protecting against some cancer causing HPV types. In Ghana, the vaccine is free and available through the National Expanded Programme on Immunization and is primarily targeted at girls aged between 9 and 14 years. The vaccine works by reducing the risk of contracting the virus and can help prevent Cervical Cancer, v***a, vaginal, a**l and oropharyngeal cancers.

In a Stakeholders pre-vaccination meeting for preparation towards the Exercise, the Municipal Director for Health Services Nana Nyarko Ameyaw Kokroko III underscored the importance of the Vaccination Exercise. The Disease Control Officer Mr Thomas and Health Promotion Officer Madam Abigail Tieko of the Wenchi Municipal Health Directorate explained the Exercise in a PowerPoint presentation and urged Stakeholders to mobilize their constituents and followers particularly girls aged between 9 and 14 years to be vaccinated in the Exercise.

Cervical Cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable types of cancer. In 2020, more than six hundred thousand (600 000) women were diagnosed with cervical cancer worldwide and almost three hundred and fifty thousand (350 000) women died from the disease. Cervical Cancer is the second most common cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths among women in Ghana; nearly 2800 new cases and 1700 deaths occurred in 2020. Approximately 70% of women with cervical cancer in Ghana are diagnosed when their tumours have progressed to advance stages. 5 year survival rates for cervical cancer range from 95% for stage-one disease to 15% for stage-four.

The 1st Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) Pilot was conducted in 2013 in 13 selected Districts in Central and Northern Regions. The 2nd HPV Pilot was conducted in 2013-2015 in 4 selected Districts in Greater Accra and Northern Regions with support from Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI).

WENCHI: HEALTH DIRECTORATE HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT ON HPV VACCINATION EXERCISE

The Wenchi Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has held Stakeholders Engagement on Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) and Vaccination Exercise slated to begin from Tuesday 7th - Saturday 11th October 2025 for girl child/females between the ages 7 and 14 (7 years to 14 years.

The Municipal Director of Health Services Nana Nyarko Ameyaw Kokroko III underscored the dangers of the disease and the importance of the Vaccination Exercise. He emphasized the roles of Stakeholders as key to the health and wellbeing of the people. He noted that it was a shared and collective responsibility of Stakeholders in health promotion.

The Nifahene of the Wenchi Traditional Council Nana Nuamah Ameyaw Keteku Soapia - II charged Stakeholders to carry out the needed sensitisation on the HPV Vaccination Exercise and support all programmes and activities of the Ghana Health Service to improve the health and wellbeing of the citizens.

The Stakeholders Engagement was to among other reasons; educate Stakeholders on the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV), Vaccination Exercise on the disease, roles of Stakeholders, Mobilize and activate Stakeholders into action for a successful Vaccination Exercise to achieve the expected results.

The HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection which is known to be the highly the cause of Cervical Cancer. It is associated with the following symptoms;
Cervical Cancer - Asymptomatic early stages, Unusual vaginal bleeding, Pain during sexual in*******se, Weight loss, Increase or foul smelling vaginal, discharge, Easy fatiguability/tiredness.
Ge***al - Small flesh coloured or grayish bumps in the ge***al area, Itching or irritation in the ge***al, Bleeding when scratched during in*******se.

WENCHI: MCE INAUGURATES ASTROTURF SPORTS FACILITY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi has inaugurated Astroturf Sports Facility Management Committee in Wenchi.

The Committee has the following responsibilities; oversee the day to day operations and management of the Facility, protect and preserve the Astroturf Sports Facility as a property of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly holding in trust for the good people of the Municipality. The Committee has the duty to protect the Astroturf in the public interest, ensure proper maintenance and safety of the Facility, Mobilize and generate revenue from the proceeds of renting the Facility, liaise between the Sports Governing Board of the Assembly Facility users, prepare, develop and implement strategic Work Plan aimed to prolong the lifespan, ensure accountability and transparency. The Management Committee shall facilitate and promote Stakeholder engagements and Development Partner collaborations. The Committee shall submit proposals and make appropriate recommendations on all matters deemed beyond the Committee for consideration by the Governing Board chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi.

In her Inaugural Address during the Swearing In Ceremony of theCommittee, the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairperson of the Sports Facility Governing Board Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi charged the newly inaugurated Astroturf Committee to ensure the preservation, maintenance and management of the Facility entrusted into their care on behalf of the good people of Wenchi.

The Committee comprised Assistant Director at the Wenchi Municipal Assembly Mr Samuel Tannor (Chairman), Mr Adama Salifu Iron Cooler (Secretary), Rev of the Methodist Church Wenchi Diocese, Ghana Police Service, Mr Asare Gyasi Mends of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Local Security Service.

The Committee was sworn in by the Hon MCE with the Oath of Office, Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Secrecy. The work of the Committee began with immediate effect.

WENCHI: SPORTS FACILITY GOVERNING BOARD INAUGURATED

Wenchi Sports Facility Board of Governors has been inaugurated to oversee Sporting facilities in the Municipality.

The Board comprised the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi - Chairperson, Coordinating Director Mr Jimah Yakubu (Secretary), Municipal Finance Officer (Financial Advisor), Nana Opoku Agyemang II of the Wenchi Traditional Council, District Football Association (DFA) Chairman Mr Abdul Wahab Yaruba.

The Governing Board is the highest decision making body clothed with the authority to coordinate, initiate and supervise the implementation of programmes, policies and all Sports related activities for in the Municipality. It has the power to summon and adjudicate all matters that come before it in relation to Sports, promote and encourage the development of Sports, provide maintenance and management guidelines to Management Committees of Sports Facilities. The Board is the embodiment of authority that establishes fundamental principles, purpose and strategic direction and vision. Develop and approve Work Plan for Facility Management Committees to implement. Responsible for Financial Oversight and Fiscal Management of Budget and appropriate use and application of resources. Ensure funding and investment strategies, performance monitoring, accountability and transparency - track performance and hold duty bearers accountable for high standards of achievements, operational effectiveness and ethical conduct. The Board shall provide constructive advice and support on ideas and proposals. The Board also encourages and protects Stakeholders and Development Partners collaborations to promote sustainable growth and development.

Addressing the Board Members in an Inauguration Ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi who sworn in the Members underscored the critical roles and mandates of the Board to facilitate and accelerate development and progress of Sports Facilities and Sporting activities in the Municipality. The MCE charged Members of the Board to demonstrate hard work and commitment towards the attainment of set goals and vision.

The Board Members took the Official Oath, Oath and Allegiance and the Oath of Secrecy. The work of the Board took immediate effect from the day of swearing In and Inauguration.

WENCHI: MCE PAYS WORKING VISIT TO WENCHI INFORMATION DIRECTORATE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi has paid a working visit to the Municipal Directorate of the Information Services Department (ISD) & Government Communications operating under the Office of the President and Government Machinery.

The working visit formed part of the MCE's familiarisation tour to acquaint herself with Staff and the mandates and operations of the Information Services Department. The visit was to enable the MCE ascertain the challenges hindering smooth information dissemination, Public Relations and Public Education Campaigns and other related activities and measures to address them accordingly. The tour was also part of efforts to rally and engineer all State Agencies for the RESET Agenda of the Government. The Departmental Tour afforded Hon MCE the opportunity to assess the state and conditions of state properties and assets for the benefit of the state and public good.

Established in 1945, 80 years ago, the Information Services Department (ISD) is the sole principal Official Mouthpiece of Government and Public Relations Department of the Assembly that publishes all programmes and activities of the Assembly. Coordinates Departments and Agencies to provide information to the public through available channels and platforms, provides Machinery and Public Address Systems for Public Education Campaigns and State Functions, conducts Market Surveys, data collection, keeps archives, provides timely, accurate and reliable information dissemination on Government Policies, Programmes and activities, Communications and Publications, Public Relations and Media Liaison, to government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), holds Public Engagements, promote public participation, Marketing Government's Agenda nationally and internationally, serves on Ghana's international Missions and Embassies abroad. Right to Information (RTI): Facilitate access to information for citizens under the Right to Information Act, through its Access to Information. Digital Infrastructure:
Investing in digital technologies and infrastructure for better data management and public access to information.

In her remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive MCE Hon Gloria Opoku Gyamfi commended staff for their hard work, commitment, dedication, resilience and patriotism always demonstrated in carrying out their assigned and mandated duties. She assured of open door and all inclusive administration, bemoaning all forms of bad working attitude that has the tendency to bring the name of the Organization into disrepute. She stressed the call for the continuous demonstration of professionalism and pledged her unwavering commitment for effective and efficient service being dispensed. The MCE also disclosed plans and collective efforts to address prevailing challenges.

The Municipal Director of the Information Services Department (MID - ISD) & Head of Government Communications Mr Stan - Nick Sofel Amuzu Kpodo elaborated the official mandates of the Department as the sole Communications and Information Bureau of the Government. He extolled the achievements and gains made by the ISD having transgressed and transformed over the past 80 years to discharge its mandates with professional standard.
