Bawumia Dominates New Poll as NPP’s Clear Choice for 2028

A fresh tracking poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has positioned former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the overwhelming favorite to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.

The survey shows Dr. Bawumia securing 57% of support among voters when matched against other potential contenders. His closest rival, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, trails significantly at just 29%. Analysts say the numbers reinforce Dr. Bawumia’s growing appeal across the party’s base and the broader electorate, in sharp contrast to Mr. Agyapong’s inability to extend his popularity beyond a narrow following.

Editorial: Fourth Estate’s Hit Job on Sammy Awuku: Journalism or Agenda?

When the Fourth Estate published its recent piece titled “NLA Good Causes? How Funds Meant for the Poor and Orphans Were Blown on Awards, Galas and the Rich”, it was clear from the headline alone that balance was never the goal.

This was not journalism in service of truth; it was a hit job dressed up as an exposé.

The former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Hon. Sammy Awuku, has rightly pushed back. And in doing so, he has exposed not only the holes in the Fourth Estate’s reporting but also the troubling way some journalists in Ghana have begun to substitute facts with sensationalism, guided less by ethics and more by a diabolical desire to discredit.

The foul cries of delegates and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may soon be a thing of the past if what former Vice President Bawumia is saying is anything to go by.

Dr Bawumia who is seeking to leas the NPP once again into the 2028 general elections has reiterated his commitment to addressing the welfare needs of party delegates as well as ordinary party members when elected flagbearer and eventually President in the 2028 elections.

Mahama Nominates Baffoe Bonnie as Chief Justice

President John Dramani Mahama has formally forwarded the name of His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to the Council of State for consideration as Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, a move that comes after a fraught and politically charged process that saw his predecessor, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, first suspended in April and then removed from office in September.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, the most senior member of the Supreme Court, has been acting in the role since 22 April 2025. He is a long-serving jurist who has sat at the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Supporters point to his experience and steady record on the bench; critics, however, say the timing of the nomination follows a removal process that has raised serious questions about transparency and respect for judicial independence.

NDC Must Choose Ghana Over Power Games (Editorial)

Barely Nine months into President John Mahama’s tenure, the National Democratic Congress seems more fixated on internal positioning than on governing the country.

The announcement by the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, that he will embark on a nationwide “thank you tour” raises serious questions.

Bawumia Vindicated On Ghana Card Being e-Passport!

The Executive Director of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Wisdom Yayra Koku has finally confirmed former Vice President Bawumia’s assertion that the national biometric identity card, the Ghana Card, also serves as an international travel card, or e-passport.

The then opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) which is now in government had lampooned Dr Bawumia’s claim, saying it was a fallacy despite the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s approval of the card as an e-passport.

GoldBod, Galamsey And The Market That Followed It (Editorial)

In the five months since Parliament created the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) as the country’s central gold trading authority, the new agency has moved fast: buying, exporting and publicly celebrating record volumes, while also handing cash and vehicles to the government’s anti-galamsey secretariat.

That activity has left critics asking a simple question; has the state’s attempt to centralize the gold trade inadvertently created fresh incentives for the illegal market it says it wants to crush?

ORAL: Auditor-General Works, Politicians Pose, Kwaku Azar Claps from America (Opinion)

Ghana’s latest political comedy writes itself. The Auditor-General quietly goes about his constitutional duty, recovers ₵10 million in ghost salaries in just two months, and suddenly government propagandists dust off their dead slogan; Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) and claim victory for a fight they have no hand in.

ORAL? Please. By now, it should be renamed Operation Recover All Lies. Since its launch, the program has recovered nothing but airtime on state media. The only loot consistently recovered is our patience.
