Abstaining From UN LGBTQI Vote Contradicts Ghana’s Values – Sam George

Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister for Communications, has reiterated his unwavering opposition to LGBTQ+ rights, aligning himself with Ghana’s official statement on the controversial UN draft resolution L.24. However, he expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Ghanaian government’s decision to abstain from the subsequent vote, calling it a betrayal of the nation’s values.

In a Facebook post, the MP for Ningo-Prampram insisted that Ghana’s position on LGBTQ+ issues must remain “clear and unambiguous.” He argued that abstaining from the vote contradicted the country’s stated principles and his personal conscience.

High Court Dismisses NPP’s Bid To Stop Ablekuma North Rerun

The High Court has rejected an application by Nana Akua Afriyie, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, seeking to halt a planned rerun of elections in 19 polling stations scheduled for July 11, 2025.

Presiding Judge Justice Ali Baba Abature dismissed the motion for an interim injunction, describing it as “unmeritorious” and ruling that the Electoral Commission (EC) must be allowed to fulfill its constitutional duty to ensure parliamentary representation for the constituency.

Temporary ‘Dumsor’ Looms as ENI Undertakes Critical Maintenance to Boost Gas Supply

Residents and businesses in Ghana should prepare for temporary power disruptions on Sunday, 13 July, as ENI, the country’s major gas supplier, temporarily shuts down its valves for essential maintenance. The move is part of ongoing efforts to enhance gas production capacity, which is expected to rise to 270 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) upon completion. The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has emphasized that while the shutdown may cause short-term inconveniences, it is a necessary step toward ensuring long-term energy stability.

During a groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the 161kV Anwomaso–Kumasi Transmission Line, Sector Minister John Jinapor confirmed the planned outage. He explained that the temporary shutdown would allow ENI to carry out critical rehabilitation work, ultimately increasing gas supply and improving power reliability.

I Am Not Guilty Of R**e, I Will Fight To Clear My Name – Thomas Partey Vows

Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey has vehemently denied multiple charges of r**e and sexual assault following a lengthy investigation by London’s Metropolitan Police. The 31-year-old midfielder, who previously played for Arsenal, faces five counts of r**e and one count of sexual assault involving three women between 2021 and 2022.
