Kofi Akpaloo Picked Up By EOCO

Kofi Akpaloo, presidential candidate and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has allegedly been picked up in what many see as yet another heavy-handed move by state security.

Family sources confirmed that Mr. Akpaloo was taken from his home in Kumasi without explanation, and his current whereabouts remain unknown. The silence from EOCO has only deepened suspicions that this is a politically motivated action rather than a legitimate legal process.

Mahama Removes CJ Torkonoo

President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo from office, acting on the recommendation of the Article 146 Committee of Inquiry. The decision, announced quietly from the Jubilee House, brings to an end Torkonoo’s turbulent tenure at the helm of Ghana’s judiciary.

The move follows months of in-camera proceedings conducted by the Article 146 Committee, which reviewed three separate petitions for her removal. After hearing testimony from petitioners, witnesses, and the Chief Justice herself, the committee submitted a sealed recommendation to the President. That recommendation has now been acted upon, though the public remains in the dark about the reasoning and evidence behind it.

CJ Removal Committee Presents First Report To Mahama

The Chairman of the Article 146 Committee of Inquiry, Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, has submitted the committee’s first report on petitions calling for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo to President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House.

The petitions, three in total, were lodged in March 2025 under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution. They were passed on to the committee by the President, who also inaugurated it on May 15, 2025. Although the Constitution requires such hearings to be held in camera, critics argue that this has provided the government with yet another convenient cover to conduct high-stakes proceedings out of public view.
