The Ghana Boxing Authority calls for a stakeholders meeting at The Gym near Osekan Beach Resort in Accra this Saturday following the National Sports Authority's extension of the incumbent board's mandate by a month::

RE: NOTICE OF RE-COMPOSITION OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF THE GBA / EXTENSION OF MANDATE OF EXECUTIVE BOARD

Please have the compliments of the Authority.

1. The Authority acknowledges receipt of your letter dated 10th July, 2025 notifying the Authority of the re-composition of the Executive Board of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

2. At the meeting between the Authority and the GBA on 10th July, 2025, it became clear that the mandate of the Executive Board of the GBA comes to an end on Saturday 19th July, 2025.

3. The Authority is determined to implement the recommendations of the Report of the Ministerial Committee set up to inquire into the death of Nigerian Boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju which occurred on 29th March, 2025.

4. In light of this and to avoid a vacuum in the administration of the GBA, it has becom
necessary for the mandate of the Executive Board to be extended for a short period pending the formation of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) to take over the affairs of and implement reforms within the GBA.

5. In the circumstances, the mandate of the Executive Board of the GBA is hereby extended for a period of 30 days from 19th July 2025 to 19th August, 2025.

6. The Authority wishes to assure the GBA and the entire boxing fraternity of its readiness to collaborate with the GBA in the implementation of the recommendations of the said Ministerial Committee to improve and safeguard the sport of boxing in Ghana.

*Reconstituted Ghana Boxing Authority Board Engages NSA to Reset Ghana Boxing*

The reconstituted Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Board, led by Acting President Roger Barnor, on Tuesday met with the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The meeting marked a significant step toward rebuilding Ghana Boxing, as both bodies discussed the implementation of recommendations from the Ministerial Committee that investigated the death of a Nigerian boxer and the administrative failings under the previous GBA leadership.

The NSA boss confirmed that in the coming days, he will outline the roadmap for implementation of the Committee findings with a team made up of top Ghana Boxing experts to steer the affairs of the sport.

To symbolize unity, trust, and renewed collaboration, Mr. Barnor presented a pair of boxing gloves to the NSA DG on behalf of the new GBA leadership.

A key focus of the discussions was the upcoming GBA Extraordinary Congress scheduled for July 19, and the outlook for Ghana Boxing beyond July 22, when the term of the current administration officially ends.

The delegation included GBA Board Members Lawrence Carl Lokko, Michael “Golden Mike” Tetteh, Nii Gonti Adjor I, Mr. Laryea, Alhaji Toffik, and Shadrack Acquaye. Also present were stakeholder representatives: Ayitey Powers (Boxers), Charles Quartey (Coaches), Alhaji Zaid (Managers), Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye (Promoters), and Rasheed Williams aka Believer (Matchmakers), along with Andrew Nortey (PRO), Solomon Otoo ‘Mangola’, Dauda Fuseni, Ernest Ofori, and Stephen Okine.

The NSA welcomes this renewed spirit of cooperation and looks forward to working closely with all stakeholders to reset and reposition Ghana Boxing.

The Sports Authority was represented by Mr. Gideon Hammond deputy DG (Admin) the C.O.O Mr Gyamfi K**i Awere and Mr. Charles Amofa head or Communications.

Good evening to all. I wish to bring to the attention of all that the board under Ag President Roger Barnor held its first meeting with stakeholders today.

The meeting was to solicit the views of members regarding the steps to take to thrash out issues with the National Sports Authoriry and, by extension, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

It is the belief of the board that in progressing with the GBA agenda, it was important to gain clearance from the NSA and assure it of our ability to deal with the issues at stake.

Gladly, the majority of board members were in attendance as well as members across the various groupings in the GBA.

Mr Andy Nortey of the Ghanaian Times was also invited. He is the board's choice to replace our former PRO Hon. Amin Lamptey.

At today's meeting, it was agreed that a meeting with the NSA would be planned.

The meeting also considered a July 19 date for an extraordinary Congress to discuss elective Congress.

Throughout the session, the phrase 'unity and peace' resonated with all as members hoped that peace and tranquillity would prevail to execute the plans of the Authority.

It is the hope that the message of goodwill enjoyed now would spread among the community so that together, the GBA would prosecute its agenda.

Promotion of Inspector David “Sniper” Mwale

This morning, WBC International Champion David “Sniper” Mwale was promoted from Sergeant to Inspector by the Inspector General of Police at a ceremony held at Zambia Police HQ. This follows his victory over Ghana’s Michael Decardi Nelson on 28th June 2025.
