On Thursday, February 16,2023.some teachers, pupils and parents from selected schools within the Hain Circuit in the Jirapa Municipality of the upper west region were taken through a one day vigorous training on inclusive education by a Catholic mission organization. The said training took place at the Hain Presentation school conference hall. The beneficiary schools include Chapuri primary and Junior high school,St.Raphael primary school,Kenee KG/Primary,Hain SHS and the Hain Presentation. This form part of the numerous educational programs that the mission has been carrying out since its inception. The main aim of the training is to further equip teachers and parents with more knowledge and the requisite skills to enable them handle children with special needs both in school and at home.In attendance were Mr.Bagyilko who sat for the municipal education director,The PRO of the Jirapa education directorate,The headmaster of Hain SHS, Mr.Gandaabie Mathias who is the (SPED) co-ordinator at the Jirapa education directorate, The parish priest of Hain,Rev.Brothers, Madam Nabiel Cynthia who happens to be a teacher with special needs but managed to go through the academic ladder and of course some selected teachers.
In his opening remarks, Mr Bagyilko Z. Fredinard who represented the municipal director told participants/teachers to take the training seriously rather than the monetary gains alone.According to him,it is very vital for all 21st century teachers to have knowledge on inclusive education since it helps them handle learners with disabilities with care and support. He also added that, teachers should not always think that children with special needs are not part of the school system and hence neglect them of the necessary support in school.
In conclusion,he really appreciated the efforts been made by MISEAN CARA in the educational system especially with regard to the Jirapa municipality. However, like Oliver twist,he still appealed to the Catholic mission to continue to support the municipal with more training programs that would help make teaching and learning better.
On his part,Rev.Brother Debuo Der James also appealed to colleagues teachers to take the training session very serious.According to him, it was not for nothing that the MISEAN CARA had decided to organize this training for teachers in the Hain circuit but to equip them with basic techniques and skills on inclusive education so that, they can handle special needs cases in schools very well.He was thankful to offices who represented the directorate as well as teachers who made to training.
Mr.Gandaabie Mathias who is municipal SPED co-ordinator and doubled as the lead facilitator for the training finally took participants through the session on inclusive education. He told participants at the training to pay attention to what was to be delivered and try to implement it fully in their various schools.
As part of his facilitation, Mr Gandaabie Mathias took participants through basic screening exercises for children with special needs through series of demonstrations.
Madam Nabiel Cynthia who is a teacher in the Jirapa municipality also shared her life experiences with participants when growing up as a physically challenge person. She narrated how she knocked by a cyclist on Christmas day at a very tender age. However, unfortunately her parents could not managed the situation very well leading to the amputation of her leg.Not withstanding all the challenges, she still went through the academic ladder to become a teacher.
She actually told participants the ordeal, trauma and stigmatization she went through in her education and therefore, appealed to teachers to endeavor to support and help children with special needs in schools and not to discriminate against them because, every child matter irrespective of your situation.

PARENTS OF KARNI DAMPUO PRIMARY SCHOOL BEGUN WORK TO PUT UP AN ACCOMMODATION FOR TEACHERS
Teachers place of abode has been a challenge in many countries of the sub-sahara Africa.Ghana therefore,is not an exception.Though successive and the current government have tried their best but it seems the problem of teachers accommodation still persist. In the Lambussie district of the upper west region, the situation is even more dire. Most teachers often refuse posting to the district due to the non-availability of convenient place of abode.
Karni Dampuo Primary School is one of the uncountable schools in the Lambussie district that do not have an accommodation for teachers since the establishment of the school in 2002.
It is as a result of this background that, parents of Karni Dampuo Primary School through communal labour is putting up a three bed-room teachers quarters for the school to enable teachers stay through out the week to teach their children. The said project is almost 80% percent completed.I can say, this project is one of the best contributions of parents in the karni community towards improving education in the Lambussie district.
However like Oliver Twist, the executives of the SMC and PA are appealing to old students of the school,NGOs in and outside the district, the district assembly, Opinion leaders in karni to help them roof the quarters before the rain begins.
The headteacher and teachers of the school are however grateful to parents for their selfless dedication and hardwork towards the management of the school.
In an interview with the PA chairman of the school Mr.Majeed by the dynamic presenter of gangaa FM,he lamented about the absence of teachers accommodation in the Lambussie district and particularly Karni Dampuo Primary School and its negative impact on education. He told Mr PUAKYIENE DONALD of gangaa FM that,it high time parents should take welfare of teachers serious especially their accommodation.Accoding to Mr.Majeed, the lack of teachers accommodation in the community hampering the educational progression of their children hence the challenge to build the quarters.
